Position Location Requirements

To ensure efficient travel and coverage, qualified candidates must currently reside within the defined geographic corridors outlined below:

• I-85 / I-185 Corridor: From Fairburn, GA, south through Columbus, GA (including surrounding communities along this route).
• I-75 Corridor: From Stockbridge, GA, south through Macon, GA (including surrounding communities along this route).

Applicants living outside of these specific highway corridors will not be considered at this time. We are not looking to relocate applicants for this internship.

Role Summary

We are seeking a high-potential Cybersecurity Operations Intern to support our Biomedical Cybersecurity Team. This is not a passive "shadowing" role. It is an accelerated development program designed to transition you from Intern to Cybersecurity Specialist Level III within 90 days.

You will work directly under Senior Analysts, providing critical support to the Department Director. While core data analysis is an important component of the position, the cornerstone of this internship is Agile Task Management: the ability to manage "other duties as assigned" with the discipline, organization, and accountability of a project manager.

You will gain exposure to high-level Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) initiatives and will be coached/expected to perform well beyond the traditional entry-level baseline.

Specialized Direct Reporting Tasks

You will own four critical project domains. These are not routine service tickets but ongoing initiatives that directly support our cybersecurity and compliance posture.

• Framework Implementation (ISO 27001 Focus): Assist in the deployment, maintenance, and continuous improvement of our Information Security Management System (ISMS). You will help map operational controls to ISO 27001 requirements, ensuring that daily security practices align with international compliance standards.
• Internal Cyber Audit Support: Serve as the primary evidence coordinator for internal audits. You will collect artifacts, validate control effectiveness, and organize supporting documentation to ensure our department remains audit-ready at all times.
• Security Risk Assessments (SRAs): Support the implementation and tracking of risk controls. You will correlate asset criticality with vulnerability data to help leadership visualize, prioritize, and manage remediation efforts across our department.
• Implementation Project Support: Support a variety of projects impacting our department and organization.

Core Operational Responsibilities

Beyond special projects, you will help ensure the efficient operation of the security function.

• Projectization of Requirements: Transform incoming requests into structured projects. You will define scope, deliverables, timelines, and ownership, converting ad hoc tasks into managed and trackable workstreams.
• Task Coordination: Manage the lifecycle of operational tasks from assignment through completion, ensuring priorities remain visible and requirements do not fall through the cracks.
• Reporting & Maintenance: Develop, maintain, and enhance operational reports. You will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of data presented to leadership, enabling informed decision-making.

Qualifications & Skills

Essential Requirements

• Education: Associate of Science (AS) degree in a technical or business-related field required. A bachelor's degree (completed or in progress) with a focus in Cybersecurity, Information Assurance, Information Assurance, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Data Analytics Proficiency: Ability to manipulate and analyze raw data using Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and advanced formulas, as well as CSV data sources. Must be capable of cleaning, organizing, and interpreting datasets to support vulnerability management, compliance efforts, and audit preparation.
• Security Fundamentals: Strong theoretical understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, and fundamental cybersecurity principles, with the ability to apply these concepts to real-world security operations.
• Visualization Skills: Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical information into intuitive charts, diagrams, dashboards, and graphical reports for technical and non-technical stakeholders alike.
• Travel: Frequent travel between organizational sites may be required. Candidates must possess reliable transportation and be willing to travel as needed.

Preferred Qualifications (Bonus)

• Certifications: CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or equivalent foundational IT and cybersecurity certifications.
• Advanced Certifications: SSCP (Systems Security Certified Practitioner), CySA+, or comparable early-career cybersecurity credentials.

Scripting Experience: Basic proficiency in Python (Pandas, Matplotlib) or PowerShell for automating data collection, reporting, and data-cleaning processes is highly desirable.
