Clinical Audiologist Jobs for OPT Students
Clinical Audiologist jobs on OPT are available at hospitals, ENT clinics, VA medical centers, and private audiology practices. Most positions require Au.D. licensure, which varies by state and can affect your timeline. STEM OPT extension does not apply to this role, so your 12-month window is the critical planning factor.

How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Clinical Audiologist
Confirm state licensure before you apply
Audiologist licensure requirements differ by state. Some require passing the Praxis exam before you can practice independently. Research your target state's board requirements early so licensure delays don't conflict with your OPT authorization window.
Prioritize employers with H-1B sponsorship history
Hospitals, university medical centers, and large audiology chains are more likely to sponsor H-1B visas than small private practices. Focus your search on organizations that have sponsored clinical professionals before, so your visa transition isn't starting from zero.
Document your clinical hours carefully
Some employers use clinical productivity metrics to justify H-1B sponsorship decisions. Keeping thorough records of patient volume, diagnostic procedures performed, and specialty areas strengthens your case when sponsorship conversations happen internally.
Treat fellowship and residency programs as OPT-compatible opportunities
Audiology fellowships at academic medical centers often provide structured mentorship and are more accustomed to visa processes. These roles can serve as a bridge into full-time employment with an employer already familiar with your authorization needs.
Use Migrate Mate to filter for sponsoring employers
Not every audiology job posting is OPT-friendly. Migrate Mate surfaces roles from employers with active sponsorship histories, saving you from applying to positions where your work authorization will disqualify you before the first interview.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does the Clinical Audiologist role qualify for a STEM OPT extension?
No. Audiology is classified under CIP code 51.0204, which is not on the Department of Homeland Security's STEM Designated Degree Program List. That means OPT-authorized Clinical Audiologists receive a 12-month authorization period, not 36 months. Planning your H-1B timeline around that 12-month limit is essential from your first day of employment.
Can I work as a Clinical Audiologist on OPT before I receive my state license?
It depends on the state and the employer. Some states issue temporary or provisional licenses that allow supervised clinical practice while your full licensure application is pending. Employers at hospitals or large practices are generally more experienced navigating this. Confirm the specific rules with your state's audiology licensing board before accepting an offer.
What visa options are available after my OPT ends as a Clinical Audiologist?
The H-1B is the most common path. Audiology qualifies as a specialty occupation because the role typically requires a Doctor of Audiology degree. If your employer is a nonprofit hospital, university, or government entity, they may be cap-exempt and able to file year-round. Some Australians in this role also qualify for the E-3 visa as an alternative.
Where can I find Clinical Audiologist jobs that are open to OPT candidates?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students on OPT and filters for employers with documented sponsorship histories. General job boards rarely surface this information, which means you can spend weeks applying to roles that won't move forward once your work authorization comes up. Searching on Migrate Mate focuses your effort on employers who are already prepared for this conversation.
Can I work part-time as a Clinical Audiologist on OPT?
Yes, but with conditions. Post-completion OPT requires that you work at least 20 hours per week to remain in valid status. Part-time audiology roles at clinics or schools can satisfy this threshold. You may also combine multiple part-time positions, as long as each role is directly related to your audiology degree and your total hours meet the minimum requirement.
