INTRODUCTION
Lenel/S2 is looking for a driven professional to join its Cloud Engineering/Managed Services team to onboard and secure the On-Guard AWS hosted single-tenant environments for our key customers, as well as helping us automate sustainable and repeatable architecture for future growth.
Do you enjoy working from the customer perspective and diving deep on issues? As a system development engineer, you will be responsible for the overall health of our AWS cloud-based managed service and develop key automation tools for our customers. You will create availability and health metrics, monitor performance, perform regular system maintenance, and architect innovative solutions running our On-Guard Cloud access control system in a large, distributed environment.
You will automate routine tasks enabling the team to be quick and agile. You'll be one of our experts in system automation for Lenel On-Guard Cloud on AWS. You’ll work closely with internal customers to understand their operational challenges and provide successful outcomes. You will work closely with our key customers onboarding and afterwards supporting their expansions and issues. You should enjoy digging deep to find answers, sometimes this will require reverse engineering existing solutions, a situation you thrive in.
This is a customer-facing position.
A day in the life of an OnGuard Cloud Team Member
If you thrive in an environment where every day is different, OnGuard Cloud is that team: engineers switch between onboarding projects, automation design, troubleshooting, and collaboration with internal and customer teams.
We help customers reduce technical debt by replacing legacy on-premises access control servers and migrating them to the AWS-hosted OnGuard Cloud Access Control System.
Our team fully manages the customer’s OnGuard application, the OnGuard infrastructure, and the underlying AWS environment to ensure high availability and strong cybersecurity.
We onboard both existing OnGuard customers and “greenfield” customers who are new to the platform, which makes every onboarding project unique.
We support the latest OnGuard versions, so customers benefit from improved availability, performance, quality, and newly released features.
Engineers on this team design new automated solutions and enhance monitoring of access control systems. The team works from a robust backlog of features and user stories to improve shared processes with internal Honeywell teams (for example, automated certificate rotation), our automation platforms, and our customers.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding OPT Sponsorship as a Cloud Developer
Lead with your cloud certifications
AWS Certified Developer, Google Associate Cloud Engineer, and Azure Developer Associate certifications signal job-readiness to hiring managers. Many OPT students use these credentials to compensate for limited U.S. work experience and stand out in competitive applicant pools.
Target companies with active cloud practices
Large enterprises modernizing legacy infrastructure and cloud-native startups both hire aggressively for cloud roles. These employers typically have established OPT and H-1B visa sponsorship pipelines, making them more comfortable navigating your work authorization timeline than smaller firms.
Disclose your OPT timeline proactively
Tell recruiters early how many months of OPT you have remaining and whether you qualify for STEM OPT extension. This prevents surprises late in the hiring process and signals that you understand your own situation, which experienced hiring managers appreciate.
Highlight specific cloud platforms in your resume
Generalist cloud experience is less compelling than demonstrated depth on one major platform. List AWS, Azure, or GCP services you have hands-on experience with, including specific tools like Lambda, Kubernetes, or Terraform, so recruiters can match you to open roles quickly.
Frame side projects as production-grade experience
Cloud Developer roles are highly skills-based, so personal projects deploying real infrastructure carry weight. Document architecture decisions, cost optimization choices, and scalability considerations in your portfolio so interviewers can assess your thinking beyond coursework.
Apply to OPT-friendly roles on Migrate Mate
Filtering by OPT sponsorship willingness saves significant time. Migrate Mate surfaces Cloud Developer roles from employers already open to sponsoring international candidates, so you spend less time screening and more time applying to positions where your authorization status is not a barrier.
Cloud Developer OPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Cloud Developer role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
Yes, in most cases. Cloud Developer positions typically fall under CIP codes related to computer science, information technology, or computer engineering, all of which qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension. Your specific degree field determines eligibility, not the job title alone, so verify your CIP code with your DSO before applying for the extension.
How much time do I need on OPT before an employer will start the H-1B process?
Most employers begin the H-1B process when you have roughly six to eight months of OPT remaining, since USCIS filing typically opens in March for an October 1 start date. If you have the STEM OPT extension, you have more runway and can time a sponsorship conversation more comfortably. Raising this conversation early, rather than waiting until your OPT is nearly expired, gives both sides more flexibility.
What cloud skills are cloud employers most willing to sponsor for?
Employers filing the most H-1B petitions for cloud roles consistently cite AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD pipeline experience as differentiating skills. Roles focused on cloud security, cost optimization, and multi-cloud architecture are also in high demand. Depth on one major platform combined with infrastructure-as-code experience tends to generate the strongest interest from sponsoring employers.
Can I work as a Cloud Developer contractor or freelancer on OPT?
Yes, but with restrictions. On standard OPT, self-employment is permitted if you own a business and are actively using your degree in that capacity. On STEM OPT extension, self-employment is not permitted and you must work for an E-Verify employer. Contracting through a staffing agency for a client company is generally acceptable, but confirm the arrangement meets DSO requirements before starting.
Where can I find Cloud Developer jobs that are open to OPT candidates?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students on F-1 OPT and lists Cloud Developer roles from employers with a documented history of sponsoring work visas. Every listing is filtered for sponsorship willingness, so you can focus your applications on companies that have already indicated openness to candidates on work authorization rather than hoping a standard job posting includes that information.
