How to Get Visa Sponsorship as an ERP Specialist
Target employers with a history of ERP sponsorship
Large enterprises running SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics are your best bet. Companies that have invested in ERP infrastructure regularly sponsor for this role because replacing specialized implementation knowledge mid-project is expensive and disruptive.
Get certified in a major ERP platform before you apply
An SAP S/4HANA, Oracle Cloud, or Microsoft Dynamics 365 certification signals employer-ready skills. Certified candidates are easier to justify sponsoring because the credential reduces onboarding time and demonstrates a clear, specialized skill set.
Highlight end-to-end implementation experience on your resume
Employers value candidates who have worked across the full ERP lifecycle, from requirements gathering through go-live support. Quantify your contributions by noting modules configured, users trained, or project timelines you helped meet.
Apply early in your OPT period to give employers enough runway
Starting your job search within the first two months of OPT authorization gives employers time to evaluate you and begin H-1B preparation before your work authorization becomes a pressing concern. Urgency can push strong candidates out of the running.
Frame your STEM OPT extension as a benefit to the employer
If your degree qualifies, mention your STEM OPT eligibility during interviews. It gives the employer up to 36 months before needing to sponsor an H-1B, which reduces their immediate immigration burden and makes hiring you a lower-risk decision.
Prioritize consulting firms and system integrators over end users
ERP consulting firms and system integrators like large IT services companies frequently sponsor OPT students because client demand for ERP talent is continuous. Their sponsorship pipelines are more established than a single-employer internal IT department.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do ERP Specialist roles commonly sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, ERP Specialist is one of the more consistently sponsored roles in enterprise technology. Large employers running SAP, Oracle, or Dynamics deployments invest heavily in specialized talent and regularly file H-1B petitions for this title. Consulting and system integration firms tend to have the most active sponsorship pipelines. You can browse ERP Specialist roles open to OPT students on Migrate Mate.
Does an ERP Specialist role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
It depends on your degree, not the job title. If your degree is in information systems, computer science, management information systems, or another qualifying STEM field on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List, you can apply for a 24-month STEM extension on top of your initial 12-month OPT. The ERP Specialist role itself typically involves enough technical work to satisfy the practical training requirement.
What ERP certifications strengthen an OPT student's sponsorship case?
SAP Certified Application Associate, Oracle Cloud certifications, and Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365 Fundamentals are the most recognized. These credentials demonstrate platform-specific expertise that employers can point to when justifying an H-1B petition under the specialty occupation standard. Earning one before or during your OPT period meaningfully strengthens your candidacy and makes sponsorship easier for the employer to approve internally.
Can I work as an ERP Specialist on OPT without any restrictions on the types of companies I work for?
Your OPT work must be directly related to your degree field. For most ERP Specialist roles, this is straightforward if your degree is in information systems, business technology, computer science, or a related area. You're not restricted to a specific employer type, so you can work at a corporation, a consulting firm, or a government contractor, as long as the role connects to your field of study.
How much lead time should I give employers when disclosing my OPT status?
Disclose your OPT status during the application process or early in the first interview, not after an offer is extended. Employers need time to assess their immigration compliance capacity and engage immigration counsel if needed. For OPT students pursuing roles that may lead to H-1B sponsorship, being upfront also filters out employers who cannot sponsor, saving you time in a job search where your authorization window is finite.
