How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Major Account Executive
Lead with quota attainment, not just activity metrics
Hiring managers for major account roles want to see closed revenue numbers and named accounts. Quantify your pipeline contributions and deal sizes clearly on your resume to compete with experienced candidates seeking sponsorship.
Clarify your OPT timeline early in the process
Major account sales cycles can stretch three to six months. Disclosing your OPT authorization window early helps employers plan sponsorship timelines and avoids wasting both parties' time late in the hiring process.
Pursue roles at companies with existing H-1B filing history
Companies that have sponsored H-1B visas before are operationally prepared to do it again. Checking Department of Labor disclosure data for prior filings helps you identify employers with real sponsorship willingness in sales roles.
Highlight industry vertical expertise, not just sales skills
Major account executives are often hired to cover specific verticals like finance, healthcare, or technology. Positioning yourself as a domain expert in a high-value vertical significantly strengthens your case for sponsorship in competitive markets.
Use Migrate Mate to filter for OPT-friendly roles
Migrate Mate surfaces Major Account Executive roles at companies actively open to OPT candidates, saving you from applying to positions where sponsorship is a dealbreaker before the first conversation even starts.

Can F-1 OPT students work as Major Account Executives in the United States?
Yes. Major Account Executive roles fall under standard work authorization, so your OPT Employment Authorization Document covers this position. If your degree is in a STEM field such as computer science, information systems, or engineering, you may also qualify for a 24-month STEM OPT extension, giving you up to three years of total authorized work time to secure H-1B sponsorship.
Do Major Account Executive roles typically qualify for STEM OPT extension?
It depends on your degree, not the job title. STEM OPT eligibility is tied to whether your degree appears on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List. A Major Account Executive role at a technology company with a computer science or data analytics background would likely qualify. Business administration degrees without a STEM classification would not. Check with your Designated School Official to confirm your specific degree's eligibility.
How do I find Major Account Executive jobs that sponsor OPT candidates?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for F-1 OPT students and filters for employers open to sponsoring international candidates. Because major account sales roles often involve long hiring cycles, finding companies with demonstrated sponsorship history early saves significant time. Browsing Migrate Mate's job board lets you focus your outreach on employers who are already prepared to work with OPT candidates rather than educating every hiring manager from scratch.
What happens to my Major Account Executive job if I don't win the H-1B lottery?
If you're not selected in the H-1B lottery, your OPT authorization ends at its expiration date and you'd need to leave or change status. Some employers explore alternatives like the O-1A visa for candidates with demonstrable sales achievement and industry recognition. Australian citizens have access to the E-3 visa, which has no lottery. Discussing contingency options with your employer before the lottery deadline gives both sides time to plan.
Is a business degree required to get an H-1B sponsored for a Major Account Executive role?
H-1B sponsorship for sales roles can be complex because USCIS requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning it theoretically requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Major account roles at technology companies are more defensible because employers can argue the role requires knowledge of complex technical products. A business, marketing, or computer science degree strengthens the petition. Your employer's immigration attorney will assess the specific job description before filing.
