How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Regional Director
Target employers with multi-state or multi-unit operations
Companies managing multiple locations or regions are far more likely to have structured HR processes and prior H-1B sponsorship history. Smaller single-location employers rarely have the infrastructure to support OPT-to-H-1B transitions smoothly.
Emphasize cross-functional leadership in your application
Regional Director roles require coordinating across sales, operations, and finance. Framing your degree and experience around enterprise-wide impact strengthens the specialty occupation argument your employer will need to make when sponsoring your visa.
Confirm your degree aligns with the role before applying
OPT work authorization requires your job to be directly related to your field of study. A Regional Director role supported by a business, management, or operations degree is a strong match. A degree in an unrelated discipline may create complications.
Ask about H-1B sponsorship early in the process
Raise the sponsorship question before or during the offer stage, not after you've accepted. Employers who have sponsored before will answer confidently. Vague or deflective answers are a signal worth taking seriously before you commit.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Can I work as a Regional Director on OPT?
Yes, as long as the role is directly related to your field of study. Regional Director positions in business, operations, or management align well with degrees in business administration, management, or related fields. Your employer does not need to file any petition for you to start work on OPT, but you must have a valid EAD and a qualifying job offer.
Do Regional Director employers typically sponsor H-1B visas?
Mid-to-large employers in industries like healthcare, retail, logistics, and technology are experienced with H-1B sponsorship and regularly hire international workers into senior management roles. Smaller regional operators are less consistent. Checking a company's H-1B filing history through public Department of Labor disclosure data before applying gives you a realistic read on their sponsorship track record.
Does a Regional Director role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the role is defined. If the position requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as business administration, finance, or operations management, it generally qualifies. Generalist management roles where any degree will do are more likely to face scrutiny. The job description and how your employer frames the role in the LCA filing both matter significantly.
Where can I find Regional Director jobs that are open to OPT candidates?
Migrate Mate is the recommended starting point. The platform is built specifically for international students and filters jobs by OPT and visa sponsorship compatibility, so you are not sifting through listings from employers who have no pathway for international workers. Regional Director roles listed there are sourced with sponsorship context in mind.
What happens if my OPT expires before the H-1B lottery result is announced?
If you hold a STEM degree, you can apply for a 24-month STEM OPT extension, which gives you continued work authorization through at least one full H-1B cap cycle. If you are not STEM-eligible, timing is critical. Your employer would need to file your H-1B registration in March and your status must bridge to October 1 without a gap. An immigration attorney can help map the exact dates for your situation.
