Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding OPT Sponsorship in Sales Account Executive
Target SaaS and B2B tech companies first
Enterprise software and B2B SaaS companies sponsor Sales Account Executives more consistently than other industries. They hire in volume, have established HR processes for work authorization, and are accustomed to onboarding international talent on OPT.
Lead with your OPT timeline, not your visa status
Tell hiring managers you have 12 months of authorization now, with a potential 24-month STEM extension. Framing it as a multi-year runway is more compelling than opening with 'I need sponsorship,' which triggers immediate hesitation from smaller employers.
Quantify your sales results before you apply
Employers weigh sponsorship costs against candidate value. If you have quota attainment numbers, pipeline figures, or revenue results from internships or previous roles, put them in your resume. Concrete outcomes make the sponsorship conversation much easier.
Research which companies have filed H-1B petitions for AE roles
Public Department of Labor disclosure data shows which employers have sponsored Account Executives for H-1B visas. Companies with a track record of sponsoring this role are far more likely to sponsor you at the end of your OPT period.
Ask about sponsorship before accepting an offer, not after
Raise the H-1B question during the final interview or offer stage, not on day one of employment. Most companies that sponsor plan for it. Those that do not will tell you early, saving you from a difficult situation when your OPT expires.
Consider mid-market companies over startups for sponsorship reliability
Early-stage startups often intend to sponsor but lack the legal infrastructure and financial stability to follow through. Mid-market companies with 200 to 2,000 employees tend to have dedicated HR teams and existing immigration counsel, making sponsorship far more predictable.
Sales Account Executive OPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Can I work as a Sales Account Executive on F-1 OPT?
Yes. Sales Account Executive roles qualify for F-1 OPT work authorization as long as the position is directly related to your field of study. Degrees in business, marketing, communications, economics, and related fields commonly support this role. You will need to ensure your employment is authorized through your DSO and that your EAD card is valid before your start date.
Am I eligible for the STEM OPT extension in a Sales Account Executive role?
It depends on your degree, not the job title. If you hold a STEM-designated degree, such as computer information systems, data science, or certain business analytics programs, you may qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension even in a sales role. Your employer must also be enrolled in E-Verify. Confirm your degree's STEM designation with your DSO before assuming you qualify.
How do I find Sales Account Executive jobs that offer H-1B sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for F-1 OPT and international students, with filters to surface employers that have a documented history of sponsoring work visas. Browsing there is a more efficient starting point than general job boards, which do not distinguish between employers willing to sponsor and those that are not. Look for companies in enterprise software, fintech, and B2B SaaS, where sponsorship rates are highest.
What happens to my Sales Account Executive job if I do not get selected in the H-1B lottery?
Your employment authorization ends when your OPT period expires. If you are not selected in the H-1B lottery, options include applying for an O-1A visa if you have demonstrable sales achievements, transitioning to a cap-exempt employer such as a university or nonprofit, or exploring other nonimmigrant categories depending on your nationality. Discussing contingency plans with your employer before the lottery results are announced is strongly advisable.
Do Sales Account Executive roles at large companies sponsor H-1B visas more often than smaller ones?
Generally yes. Large enterprise technology companies such as Salesforce, Oracle, and SAP have established immigration programs and sponsor Account Executives regularly. Smaller companies may be willing but lack the legal infrastructure to execute reliably. Checking a company's H-1B filing history through public Department of Labor disclosure data gives you a concrete signal before investing significant time in their interview process.
