Orthopedic Physician Assistant Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a orthopedic physician assistant in Texas?
To work as an orthopedic physician assistant in Texas, you must hold an active license issued by the Texas Medical Board, which requires graduating from an accredited PA program and passing the PANCE exam administered by NCCPA. After licensure, Texas requires PAs to practice under a written delegation agreement with a supervising physician. Most orthopedic employers expect clinical rotations or fellowship training in musculoskeletal care before hiring into specialized orthopedic roles.
How much do orthopedic physician assistants make in Texas?
Orthopedic physician assistants in Texas earn a median of about $134,550 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $102,650 for the lowest 10% to over $169,000 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire orthopedic physician assistants in Texas?
Employers hiring orthopedic physician assistants in Texas right now include Baylor Scott & White Health, Baylor College of Medicine, and CHRISTUS Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large integrated health systems and dedicated orthopedic specialty groups across the major metros consistently post openings throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most orthopedic physician assistant jobs?
Houston, Lubbock, and Rockwall have the most orthopedic physician assistant openings in Texas. Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth lead because of their concentration of large hospital systems, Level I trauma centers, and high-volume orthopedic surgery practices, while San Antonio's military medical infrastructure and growing suburban population also generates steady orthopedic PA demand.
Are there remote orthopedic physician assistant jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Orthopedic physician assistant work is inherently hands-on, involving surgical first assist, joint injections, and direct patient evaluation, which makes fully remote roles uncommon. About 0% of orthopedic physician assistant openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions typically involve telehealth follow-up visits or post-operative care coordination rather than procedural duties.
How can I get hired as a orthopedic physician assistant in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a PA residency or fellowship with an orthopedic or surgical focus, as programs affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine and UT Southwestern Medical Center in Texas prioritize new graduates. Lateral moves from surgical PA roles in trauma, spine, or sports medicine are also common entry points. Completing orthopedic rotations during PA school and obtaining DEA registration before job searching gives candidates a measurable edge with Texas employers.
Where can I find and apply to orthopedic physician assistant jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to orthopedic physician assistant jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings from employers actively hiring right now. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to the employer.
