Position Function Summary
Under the direction of the HCH, Director, the Patient Services Representative (PSR) greets patients and visitors entering La Familia Medical Center (LFMC), registers new and returning patients, provides patient-related clerical services which include answering telephones, scheduling, obtaining and reviewing patient demographic/insurance information, collecting payments and obtaining referrals. Performs duties in a manner that is supportive and responsive to patients and visitors.
Essential Responsibilities
- Greets new/returning patients, clients and visitors checks them in for scheduled and walk-in appointments, or directs them to appropriate offices or individual staff;
- Provides general information to, updates records, schedules/reschedules/cancels/verifies medical center appointments and return appointments for patients over the phone/in person;
- Answers the telephone and connects callers to the appropriate offices or individual staff, including assessing need for urgent appointments;
- Maintains daily record of patient encounters, personal data, and insurance eligibility, including medical records;
- Meets with patients to collect required personal, health, and insurance information for the permanent patient record;
- Collects payment from the patient via cash, checks, bankcards, etc. and generates a receipt for the patient visit; including closing procedures such as end of day reporting and cash drawer balances;
- Counsels, determines eligibility, obtains assistance, and provides patients who are unable to pay for their visit and arranges a payment agreement plan suitable for the patient and organization, including interviewing family members and others;
- Educates program applicants/clients by explaining program requirements, options, interpretations, and determinations, follows-up with patient during the approval process;
- Trains new PSRs.
Education, Experience and Skills/Training
- High School graduate or equivalent required.
- CPR Certification required.
- LFMC required training Including, but not limited to basic Annual Safety, Anti-harassment, HIPAA Training;
- Basic Knowledge and ability of general office procedures including filing, copying, faxing, use of a computer, to multitask within established deadlines, work under the direction of a supervisor and follow instructions for work completion, and take initiative to resolve patient concerns and problems;
- Fluent in both English and Spanish, preferred.
