Personal Trainer Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a personal trainer in Tennessee?
Tennessee does not require a state-issued license to work as a personal trainer, but virtually every employer requires a certification from an accredited national organization such as NASM, ACE, ACSM, or NSCA. Most candidates complete an accredited certification program, pass the relevant exam, and obtain current CPR and AED credentials before applying. Large Tennessee employers, including hospital-based fitness centers and commercial gym chains, treat these certifications as non-negotiable minimum qualifications.
Which companies hire personal trainers in Tennessee?
Employers hiring personal trainers in Tennessee right now include Crunch Fitness, Tru Fit Athletic Club, and YMCA, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Tennessee's mix of major hospital systems, university recreation centers, and national fitness chains means openings appear across a broad range of settings and specialties throughout the state.
Which Tennessee cities have the most personal trainer jobs?
Nashville, Chattanooga, and Memphis have the most personal trainer openings in Tennessee. Nashville leads because of its dense concentration of corporate wellness programs, hospital-affiliated fitness centers, and large commercial gyms, while Memphis and Knoxville generate consistent demand through major medical systems, university recreation programs, and growing suburban fitness markets.
Are there remote personal trainer jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, but they're rare. Personal training is fundamentally a hands-on, in-person role, so most openings require physical presence at a gym, clinic, or client site. About 0% of personal trainer openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions are almost exclusively online coaching or virtual programming roles rather than traditional floor training.
How can I get hired as a personal trainer in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a fitness floor associate or group exercise assistant role at a large Tennessee facility while earning a national certification. YMCA locations across Nashville and Memphis regularly hire uncertified candidates into entry roles with the expectation they will complete NASM or ACE certification during their first months. Hospital wellness centers affiliated with Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare also bring on fitness assistants who gain supervised hours toward full personal trainer credentials.
Where can I find and apply to personal trainer jobs in Tennessee?
You can find and apply to personal trainer jobs in Tennessee on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the listings for roles that match your certification level, preferred setting, and location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
