Physical Therapist Assistant Jobs in Kansas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a physical therapist assistant in Kansas?
You must earn an associate degree from a physical therapist assisting program accredited by CAPTE, pass the National Physical Therapy Examination for PTAs, and obtain a license from the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts before practicing in the state. Kansas requires all PTAs to hold an active state license, which must be renewed on a biennial cycle. Many Kansas community colleges offer accredited PTA programs, making in-state education a practical path for most candidates.
How much do physical therapist assistants make in Kansas?
Physical therapist assistants in Kansas earn a median of about $64,500 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $52,520 for the lowest 10% to over $79,550 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire physical therapist assistants in Kansas?
Kansas physical therapist assistant roles are posted by tmc, HiredFirst, and Key Rehabilitation and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Kansas hiring tends to be spread across large health systems, regional skilled nursing chains, and outpatient orthopedic groups that staff multiple clinic locations around Wichita and the Kansas City metro.
Which Kansas cities have the most physical therapist assistant jobs?
Wichita, Liberal, and Hutchinson lead Kansas for physical therapist assistant openings. Wichita drives the largest share of demand thanks to its concentration of hospital systems and outpatient rehabilitation clinics, while Kansas City benefits from major health networks that operate on both sides of the state line, and Topeka draws consistent hiring through state government facilities, regional hospitals, and long-term care communities.
Are there remote physical therapist assistant jobs in Kansas?
Yes, but they're rare. Physical therapist assistant work is hands-on by nature, requiring direct patient contact for therapeutic exercises, manual techniques, and mobility assistance, so the vast majority of roles are on-site. About 0% of physical therapist assistant openings tied to Kansas are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions typically involve documentation review, telehealth check-ins, or care coordination support rather than direct treatment.
How can I get hired as a physical therapist assistant in Kansas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for new-graduate PTA positions or rehab technician roles at Kansas skilled nursing facilities and outpatient clinics, which regularly bring on candidates fresh from accredited programs. Via Christi Health, Stormont Vail Health, and regional long-term care networks in Wichita and Topeka are known to post new-grad openings and provide structured clinical onboarding. Completing your Kansas licensure quickly after passing the NPTE and having clinical rotation hours documented from your CAPTE program gives you a meaningful edge over applicants still pending licensure.
Where can I find and apply to physical therapist assistant jobs in Kansas?
