Physical Therapy Assistant Jobs in Montana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a physical therapy assistant in Montana?
You must earn an associate degree from a physical therapy assisting program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education, then pass the National Physical Therapy Examination for physical therapy assistants and apply for licensure through the Montana Board of Physical Therapy. The board requires proof of graduation, passing scores, and a completed application before you can practice in the state.
Which companies hire physical therapy assistants in Montana?
Employers hiring physical therapy assistants in Montana right now include Logan Health, Providence, and Billings Clinic, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Montana's mix of large regional health systems, rural critical access hospitals, and independently owned outpatient clinics means openings appear in a wide range of settings across the state.
Which Montana cities have the most physical therapy assistant jobs?
Polson, Laurel, and Shelby have the most physical therapy assistant openings in Montana. Billings drives the highest volume as the state's largest city and medical hub, anchored by major health systems, while Missoula benefits from the University of Montana Medical Center and a growing outpatient rehabilitation market, and Great Falls sees consistent demand through Benefis Health System and surrounding long-term care facilities.
Are there remote physical therapy assistant jobs in Montana?
Yes, but they're rare. Physical therapy assisting is a hands-on clinical role that requires direct patient contact, so most positions are fully on-site. About 0% of physical therapy assistant openings tied to Montana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those limited exceptions typically involve telehealth triage support or administrative coordination rather than direct patient treatment.
How can I get hired as a physical therapy assistant in Montana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to new-graduate positions at large Montana health systems like Billings Clinic or Benefis Health System, which regularly bring on newly licensed PTAs and provide structured mentorship under supervising physical therapists. Candidates who worked as physical therapy technicians or rehabilitation aides during school stand out because that hands-on exposure translates directly. Holding an active Montana PTA license and a current CPR certification at the time of application removes a common barrier that otherwise delays the hiring process.
Where can I find and apply to physical therapy assistant jobs in Montana?
You can find and apply to physical therapy assistant jobs in Montana on Migrate Mate, which lists current Montana openings across outpatient clinics, hospital systems, skilled nursing facilities, and home health agencies. Search the listings to find roles that match your license status, experience level, and preferred location, then apply directly.
