- Coordinate with QA/QC personnel to ensure inspections, testing, and documentation meet project and code requirements.
- Identify and address quality issues promptly, implementing corrective actions where necessary.
3. Safety & Environmental Oversight
- Promote and maintain a culture of safety within the plant.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and environmental standards.
- Participate in safety meetings, audits, and training programs to reduce incidents and maintain a safe working environment.
4. Personnel Management
- Assist in supervising, coaching, and developing shop foremen, welders, fitters, and other production staff.
- Support employee training and certification programs (welding, rigging, equipment operation, etc.).
- Help with scheduling, performance evaluations, and resolving personnel issues as they arise.
5. Equipment & Facility Management
- Support maintenance and calibration schedules for shop equipment, cranes, and tools.
- Recommend equipment upgrades and process improvements to enhance productivity.
- Assist in maintaining inventory control of consumables, materials, and spare parts.
6. Coordination & Communication
- Act as a liaison between production, project management, purchasing, and shipping departments.
- Communicate production status, challenges, and resource needs to the Plant Manager.
- Ensure smooth coordination of fabrication, coating, and delivery schedules.
7. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of production progress, material usage, and labor hours.
- Prepare daily and weekly reports on plant performance, efficiency, and issues.
- Assist in developing and enforcing standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Background & Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; advanced technical training preferred.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in structural steel or miscellaneous metals fabrication or a closely related field.
- Hands-on experience as a fabricator or erector in the steel industry preferred.
- Proven track record in managing production operations with a focus on quality, safety, and efficiency.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with computers and production management software.
Specialized Knowledge & Skills
- In-depth understanding of fabrication and erection standards and procedures.
- Working knowledge of AISC, PCI, and AWS D1.1/D1.5 standards and codes.
- Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and project specifications.
