Position Description:
- The Plant Manager is responsible for assisting the Director of Plant Services in engineering, custodial, and minor maintenance at selected facilities as assigned by the Director of Plant Services by starting, stopping, and observing all equipment that is interconnected with the air conditioning and/or heating system, safety, security, cleanliness, and the entire appearance at various facilities.
- The position can require extended or on-call work hours due to emergencies or extenuating circumstances related to safety or operational routine.
Scope of Responsibility:
- Opens building in morning; secures building in afternoon.
- Operates heating and air conditioning systems.
- Sees that rooms are properly ventilated.
- Replaces light globes or fluorescent tubes.
- Receives supplies, checks inventory requesting janitorial supplies; supplies custodial staff. Do not supply to cafeteria or stadium.
- Reports vandalism immediately to principal and keeps reports.
- Checks firefighting equipment and playground equipment for good functioning and safety.
- Repairs, removes or secures any unsafe equipment, reports same to principal.
- Cuts and maintains school yard and shrubs, watering regularly.
- Removes trash and debris from premises.
- Buffs floor when appropriate.
- Maintains cleanliness of halls and entrances during the day.
- Cleans classroom units as specified in accordance with work schedule and specified school needs.
- Is available for school and school sponsored activities. Outside agencies will pay for use of building as prescribed in policy manual.
- Sets up for assemblies, conferences, plays, programs when required.
- Supervises custodial staff, inspects their work, assigns duties, keeps and reports the time for himself/herself and personnel, etc. in coordination with principal.
- Light maintenance functions, makes minor repairs such as replacing faucet handles, light switches, door knobs and door adjustments, glass repairs, painting, etc. for all buildings on school plant.
- Responsible to carry and answer system issued iPhone before, during and after normal work hours due to emergencies or extenuating circumstances related to safety or operational routine.
- Maintains files and operates computer and other machines.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Plant Services.
Skills and Qualifications:

- Successful candidates will also demonstrate and/or possess:
- 3+ years of progressively increasing experience custodial services.
- Strong communication skills in multiple settings and the ability to be an engaging change agent and culture creator that can inspire and motivate.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to use quantitative and qualitative data to make decisions and recommendations.
- Collaborative management style, with a proven track record of working with diverse individuals at all levels to drive decision-making and results.
- Maintain a valid Louisiana drivers’ license.
- Have knowledge of driving laws, interpreting traffic signals, signs.
- Ability to operate a manual transmission.
Desirable Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED/Hi Set
- Two years of experience in a mechanical trade.
- Two years of college with 48 credit hours earned.
Physical Involvement:
- Walking and carrying tools, equipment, building materials, etc. are constant, everyday requirements.
- Surfaces vary including mud conditions after a rain, gravel, concrete, dirt, grass, etc.
- Climbing 6, 8, 10, and 12 foot step ladder, extension ladder, stairs and scaffolding are routinely required.
- This climbing often includes carrying of tools, building materials, etc.
- Trunk flexion and squatting are necessary requirements in accomplishing tasks such as working under raised buildings, in attic spaces, toilet room enclosures, etc., again often necessitating carrying tools, building materials, etc.
- Lifting is required daily in accomplishing tasks.
- Building materials, electrical panels, small generator and pump equipment, desks, full mop buckets, etc., are necessarily moved, in some cases loaded and unloaded from vehicles.
- Fifty pounds is the maximum expected load for one person.
- Two and three person coordinated lifting is occasionally required.
