THE OPPORTUNITY
You’ll join a team of Platform Engineers who are passionate about technology, learning, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Our team has a long history of interest and enthusiasm around cybersecurity, and our Security Working Group meets regularly to discuss the latest threats and trends, monitor our security posture, curate our backlog of security improvements, and further our collective expertise in the area. As an extension of continued investment in the security of our platform, we want you to join our team as a dedicated Platform Security Engineer to participate in this important part of our organization. You will be welcomed in an environment where you will learn, mentor others, and challenge yourself while being empowered to make a meaningful impact on a team that respects and values security as a first-class component of our platform.
- Collaborate with other engineers regularly to discover, research, and plan potential changes to our code, infrastructure, configuration, and overall architecture.
- Embed security into our internal developer platform so that it can be secure by default.
- Advise on changes to code in our core platform, applications, and microservices in order to drive security improvements. Our stack includes apps and services written in modern, object-oriented PHP, JavaScript / TypeScript, Kotlin, Python, and Swift, and we welcome your experience in any modern programming languages and platforms.
- Drive selection of technologies, libraries, and third-party vendors, and participate in far-reaching decisions affecting our systems.
- Contribute to the selection, implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of observability tools to continuously assess security threats and find areas for improvement.
- Advocate for and implement changes to best practices and processes across our development team.
- Review design documents and pull requests to advise other Software Engineers on how to improve security in their work.
- Be a champion of security and foster a culture of enthusiasm for cybersecurity. Expect plenty of opportunities for leadership as you advance your career at Kipsu. We see all of our current team members as tomorrow’s leaders as we "play the long game" and build our business to last.

- Experience utilizing AWS (or other cloud platforms), Docker, Linux and, ideally, DevOps tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
- Computer Science, Information Security or related course history, with additional experience, training, or certification related to information security preferred.
- A strong enthusiasm for cybersecurity and a desire to stay up to date in the field, maintaining an awareness of new advances, threats, and other trends in the space.
- Knowledge of security principles in networking, cloud computing, and web application development.
- Experience building and hosting web applications, preferably designing or influencing architecture.
- Experience implementing or managing any kind of security tooling, for example Intrusion Detection or Prevention Systems, Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), Web Application Firewall (WAF), etc.
- A bias for action to jump on whatever needs to get done and a consistent track record in hitting deadlines.
- A curiosity or fascination with how technology works “under the hood” and a desire to care for and continuously improve systems over time.
- Persistence in reaching your goals, even when you’ve run into some obstacles along the way.
