Description
Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Kessinger Lab
The Kessinger laboratory at the Masonic Medical Research Institute (MMRI) is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to integrate innovative translational molecular imaging strategies and novel diagnostic agents to study cardiovascular disease in vivo. Specifically, the position is R01-funded to investigate the biology of pulmonary embolism and the inflammatory response that drives associated sequelae, including pulmonary fibrosis. The methodology outlined for the studies includes single cell/nuclear analysis, translational imaging – CT, US, intravital fluorescence, mouse genetics, and molecular biology techniques.
About The PI
Dr. Kessinger is an Assistant Professor at the Masonic Medical Research Institute and continues to integrate molecular imaging modalities and novel agents to address biological hypotheses in cardiovascular, autoimmune, and neurological diseases. His venous thromboembolism is currently funded through the NIH NHLBI.
About The Institute
Established in 1958, the MMRI has been at the forefront of cardiovascular research for over 60 years. The institute has recently undergone a renaissance, strengthening our expertise in cardiovascular medicine and expanding into other areas, including neurodegeneration and autoimmunity. In addition, the laboratory and vivarium spaces have been completely renovated, facilitating the groundbreaking research that our investigators are undertaking. Our vision is to build scientific teams that combine molecular biology, chemistry, computation, technology, and engineering to create novel approaches to understanding and deciphering disease causes. We will use this knowledge to advance basic research to clinical applications, therapeutics, and cures.

Postdoctoral Research Fellow Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a postdoctoral research fellow in New York?
Becoming a postdoctoral research fellow in New York requires completing a doctoral degree, typically a PhD, in the relevant scientific discipline. New York does not issue a state license specific to postdoctoral researchers, so entry is credential-driven rather than board-regulated. Candidates apply directly to principal investigators or research offices at universities, hospitals, and independent research institutes, often during the final year of their doctoral program or shortly after defense.
Which companies hire postdoctoral research fellows in New York?
Employers hiring postdoctoral research fellows in New York right now include Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Fordham University, and SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's dense concentration of academic medical centers and independent research institutes means postdoctoral openings are spread across both major universities and specialized biomedical organizations throughout the state.
Which New York cities have the most postdoctoral research fellow jobs?
The cities with the most postdoctoral research fellow openings in New York are New York, Brooklyn, and Buffalo. New York City dominates due to the sheer density of research universities, academic medical centers, and life sciences institutes concentrated in Manhattan and the surrounding boroughs, while Buffalo and Rochester contribute through their major research universities and affiliated hospital systems.
Are there remote postdoctoral research fellow jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Postdoctoral research fellow work is fundamentally laboratory- and campus-based, so fully remote positions represent a small share of total openings. About 0% of postdoctoral research fellow openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to involve computational biology, bioinformatics, or data analysis rather than bench science.
How can I get hired as a postdoctoral research fellow in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying during the final stages of your doctoral program, before officially defending, since most New York research institutions expect candidates with a completed or near-completed PhD rather than years of postdoctoral history. Targeting training grants and institutional postdoctoral programs at places like Weill Cornell Medicine, NYU Grossman School of Medicine, or the New York Structural Biology Center gives early-career researchers structured mentorship. A strong dissertation chapter or preprint submission strengthens applications considerably for candidates without a published record.
Where can I find and apply to postdoctoral research fellow jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to postdoctoral research fellow jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current New York openings updated regularly. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your research background and institution preferences, and apply directly to each position.
