Primary Care Physician Jobs in Colorado: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a primary care physician in Colorado?
To become a primary care physician in Colorado, you must hold an MD or DO degree, complete a residency in a primary care specialty, and obtain an active medical license through the Colorado Medical Board. The Board requires proof of postgraduate training, passing scores on the USMLE or COMLEX, and a background check. After licensure, most Colorado employers expect board certification or active pursuit of it in your specialty.
Which companies hire primary care physicians in Colorado?
Companies currently hiring primary care physicians in Colorado include Bloom Healthcare, Optum, and Oak Street Health, part of CVS Health, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Colorado's large integrated systems and federally qualified health centers tend to post the most consistent openings, particularly in the Denver metro and along the Front Range corridor.
Which Colorado cities have the most primary care physician jobs?
Denver, Colorado Springs, and Parker lead Colorado in primary care physician job openings. Denver and Aurora drive the highest volume thanks to the concentration of major health systems, academic medical centers, and multispecialty groups headquartered there, while Colorado Springs supports its own sizable market anchored by regional hospitals and military-affiliated healthcare facilities serving the Pikes Peak region.
Are there remote primary care physician jobs in Colorado?
Yes, but they're rare. Primary care is fundamentally a hands-on, in-person discipline, so fully remote roles are limited almost entirely to telehealth-focused practices. About 21% of primary care physician openings tied to Colorado are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and most of those are telehealth positions covering after-hours or overflow patient volume rather than full-panel primary care roles.
How can I get hired as a primary care physician in Colorado with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly out of residency, as Colorado's largest systems actively recruit new graduates. UCHealth, Intermountain Health, and Denver Health all maintain new-physician onboarding programs and offer structured mentorship for early-career attendings. Federally qualified health centers across the state, including those serving rural Front Range and mountain communities, frequently hire new graduates and offer loan repayment incentives. Completing a Colorado-based residency gives candidates an immediate network advantage, and obtaining board eligibility before your start date strengthens any application significantly.
Where can I find and apply to primary care physician jobs in Colorado?
You can find and apply to primary care physician jobs in Colorado on Migrate Mate, which lists current Colorado openings across health systems, group practices, and community health centers. Search the listings to find roles that match your specialty and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
