Procurement Assistant Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a procurement assistant in California?
Most procurement assistant roles in California require a bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, or a related field, though some employers accept an associate degree combined with relevant work experience. No state-issued license is required for the role. Earning a Certified Professional in Supply Management credential from the Institute for Supply Management or a Certified Supply Chain Professional designation strengthens your candidacy, particularly for roles with California public agencies or large defense contractors.
How much do procurement assistants make in California?
Procurement assistants in California earn a median of about $56,160 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $40,100 for the lowest 10% to over $75,110 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire procurement assistants in California?
Employers hiring procurement assistants in California right now include Amazon, Walmart, and The Home Depot, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of defense contractors, large hospital networks, and public university systems means steady, recurring demand across both private and government procurement functions.
Which California cities have the most procurement assistant jobs?
Los Angeles, Tracy, and Ontario have the most procurement assistant openings in California. Los Angeles drives volume through its dense mix of aerospace, entertainment, and healthcare employers, San Jose reflects Silicon Valley's technology supply chains, and San Diego is anchored by defense contractors and biotech firms that maintain large in-house procurement teams.
Are there remote procurement assistant jobs in California?
Yes, and more than many operational roles, though on-site work remains common for positions tied to physical receiving, warehouse coordination, or government facilities. About 2% of procurement assistant openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with remote work most available in contract administration, vendor data management, and purchase order processing functions that are fully document-driven.
How can I get hired as a procurement assistant in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to purchasing clerk or supply chain coordinator roles at large California employers such as county government agencies, University of California campuses, or major health systems, which regularly hire candidates without prior procurement experience. A business or supply chain degree, even in progress, opens these doors. Completing a Certified Production and Inventory Management course or similar supply chain credential signals commitment and gives you an edge over other entry-level applicants in a competitive California market.
