Job Description
NBC News is seeking a seasoned, driven Producer to support newsgathering, storytelling, and live production across all platforms. This role will work closely with a Correspondent and production teams to pitch, develop, report, and execute compelling journalism—from breaking news to in-depth features, investigative reporting to national coverage.
The ideal candidate is a creative journalist with sharp editorial judgment, strong writing and research skills, and the confidence to thrive under pressure. This producer should be equally at home in the field, on location, or in the control room, and adept at delivering both live and taped segments that meet NBC’s highest editorial standards. The ideal candidate is a news junkie who can’t wait to get out the door and, on the road, to cover that next story. This producer should also enjoy storytelling for morning television, an evening newscast and everything in between. The ability to shoot and edit is a plus, along with a sense of what does well on social media or in vertical video formats.
This role is right for you if you’re a versatile storyteller who thrives on urgency and impact. You move seamlessly between producing, reporting, and writing, and you’re as comfortable leading coverage during breaking news as you are crafting enterprise stories. You’re highly organized, competitive, and relentless about accuracy and detail—yet collaborative, adaptable, and energized by working with correspondents and teams under tight deadlines. Most importantly, you’re passionate about journalism that informs, engages, and makes a difference.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with Correspondent and show teams to develop, report, and deliver strong, visually compelling stories with clear narratives and well-researched journalism.
- Pitch, field produce, write, and fact-check stories across NBC News linear and streaming platforms, including daily news, longform pieces, and cross-platform content.
- Conduct original reporting, deep research, and source interviews.
- Secure guest bookings in a competitive environment; conduct pre-interviews and prepare talking points.
- Ability to travel at a moment’s notice to cover a story and commit to staying on the road as long as the story takes.
- Collaborate with control rooms, senior producers, and editorial teams to build rundowns, write intros, and produce live and taped segments.
- Oversee field operations, including live shots, remote anchor setups, and breaking news coverage.
- Track and manage correspondent’s schedule when working with them closely.
- Work closely with editors to ensure high-quality video packages, graphics, and sound.
- Partner with Standards & Legal to ensure all content adheres to editorial and corporate guidelines.
- Maintain strong communication between the Correspondent, senior leadership, and production teams.
- Contribute ideas for a wide range of content including news-of-day, lifestyle features, celebrity interviews, and human-interest stories.
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in network news, cable, or talk show production, including live and taped segments.
- Strong journalistic writing, research, and editorial judgment skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. politics, current events, pop culture, and lifestyle trends.
- Experience shooting (DSLR or similar) and editing (Avid and/or Adobe Premiere).
- Strong ability to navigate newsroom tools and technology (Slack, NCX, Latakoo, etc.)
- Proven ability to work in fast-paced environments under tight deadlines.
- Must be willing to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime with short notice.
- Must be able to travel frequently, domestically and internationally.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to collaborate across teams.
Desired Characteristics:
- Strong storytelling ability with creativity in pitching original ideas.
- Experience working with live programming.
- Cool under pressure and comfortable managing breaking news situations.
- A self-starter with strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Knowledge of NBC News Policies, Guidelines, and Practices.
Additional Requirements:
Fully Remote: This position has been designated as fully remote, based in Atlanta, GA, meaning that the position is expected to contribute from a non-NBCUniversal worksite, most commonly an employee’s residence. This role will report into Miami bureau leadership.
This position is eligible for company-sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks. Salary range: $93,000 - $120,000
