Full-Time | Hourly | PM Position

Bareo is looking for a PM Sous Chef to join our kitchen team.

We’re looking for someone who is hands-on, organized, dependable, and excited to be part of a small restaurant where everyone works together. This isn’t a position where you’ll spend service standing on the sidelines — you’ll be cooking with the team, keeping the kitchen moving, and overseeing the quality of the food we are putting out.

We operate with a whole-house model, so our kitchen team is part of the guest experience too. That means running food, talking to guests about dishes, touching tables, and jumping in wherever the restaurant needs you.

Experience with Japanese cuisine is a big plus. Extra bonus points if you have experience with dumplings, noodles, sushi, Japanese ingredients or techniques. If not, being curious and excited to learn goes a long way.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily kitchen operations and PM service
• Lead, train, and support the BOH team
• Manage food inventory, ordering, receiving, and proper product storage
• Complete monthly inventory counts with the General Manager
• Maintain consistent food quality and recipe execution
• Make sure prep levels are appropriate for anticipated business
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness, organization, and equipment
• Communicate maintenance and equipment needs to the General Manager in a timely manner
• Attend weekly manager meetings
• Meet with management and provide input on BOH employee performance reviews
• Communicate staffing, performance, operational, and food quality concerns to the General Manager
• Participate in our whole-house service model by running food, interacting with guests, touching tables, and helping wherever needed

Position Expectations

• Follow our established menu format and assist with menu changes within that structure
• Work a PM schedule, including nights and weekends
• Submit any receipts to the General Manager or upload them directly to MarginEdge in a timely manner
• Report directly to the General Manager and support their operational decisions
• Keep clear and consistent communication with the General Manager about staffing, ordering, prep, food quality, and anything happening in the kitchen
• Be someone the team can rely on during service
• Care about the details, but also know when to jump in and just get things done

This Role Is Not Responsible For

• Making final hiring or termination decisions
• Issuing disciplinary action independently
• Creating dishes or menu items outside of the agreed-upon menu format without prior approval
• Making major operational or staffing changes without approval from the General Manager

Bareo is our Filipino-Japanese neighborhood restaurant and bar on Spring Street in Charleston. We serve dumplings, Japanese-inspired dishes, kakigōri, sake, tea, and plenty of things we just really like to eat.

We’re a small team, so everyone matters. We care about making really good food, taking care of our guests, keeping the restaurant clean and organized, and creating a place people actually enjoy coming to work.

We take what we do seriously without making the restaurant feel too serious.

Pay: $28.00 - $34.00 per hour
