About the role
Help build a nursery with a purpose.We are seeking an experienced, hands-on grower to lead our native-plant and seed production program, primarily serving wholesale customers and regional restoration projects, with some retail sales.
We are looking for someone passionate about native plants, interested in local ecotypes, and excited to research and trial new propagation methods and growing technologies. This is an opportunity to shape our production program, grow high-quality plants, and develop a nursery that supports regional biodiversity and ecological restoration.
- Plan and manage production from seed through saleable plugs and plants.
- Oversee crop schedules, irrigation, plant health, inventory, and seed-source records.
- Research and trial methods that improve plant quality, yields, and production efficiency.
- Manage plant and seed sales, including customer inquiries, availability lists, pricing with the owner, orders, and fulfillment.
- Develop relationships with wholesale customers and restoration professionals.
- Track production costs, supplies, and crop performance.
- Lead and train a small team with clear direction, patience, and kindness.
Required qualifications
- At least three years of professional nursery or greenhouse production experience, with demonstrated success growing healthy, saleable plants.
- Hands-on experience propagating and producing native plants from seed.
- Ability to plan crops, identify growing problems, and manage day-to-day production independently.
- Strong organization, recordkeeping, and computer skills, including spreadsheets.
- Ability to coordinate customer orders and understand basic production costs.
- Experience directing or training others, with strong communication and practical problem-solving skills.
- Interest in experimentation, continued learning, and ecological growing practices.
Preferred qualifications
- Education or professional training in horticulture, plant science, botany, ecology, or a related field. Substantial practical experience is equally valued.
- Experience with local ecotypes, seed collection and production, and maintaining provenance records.
- Experience with wholesale nursery sales, contract growing, or restoration customers.
