Production Manager Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a production manager in California?
Most production managers in California start with a bachelor's degree in operations management, industrial engineering, manufacturing technology, or a related field, then build experience as a shift supervisor or production coordinator. California has no state-issued license specific to the production manager title, but roles in food manufacturing may require a Food Safety Manager certification recognized under California retail food codes. Employers in aerospace and defense often expect familiarity with AS9100 quality standards.
Which companies hire production managers in California?
Employers hiring production managers in California right now include Netflix, Apple, and Riot Games, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of entertainment studios, aerospace contractors, and large-scale food and beverage operations means production manager demand is distributed across a wider range of industries than most other states.
Which California cities have the most production manager jobs?
Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Jose have the most production manager openings in California. Los Angeles anchors hiring through its entertainment studios and aerospace suppliers, while the Bay Area and San Diego attract openings in semiconductor manufacturing, biotech, and defense contracting, making both metros strong outside of the traditional manufacturing belt.
Are there remote production manager jobs in California?
Yes, but they're rare. Production managers typically oversee physical operations, equipment, and floor staff, which requires an on-site presence most of the time. About 7% of production manager openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those roles tend to be at the strategic or program-management end of the function rather than direct floor supervision.
How can I get hired as a production manager in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a production coordinator or shift supervisor role at a California manufacturing plant or studio facility, then building toward a manager title over two to three years. Large California food producers and entertainment studios run structured associate operations programs that place candidates without direct management experience. A Food Safety Manager certification or a Lean manufacturing credential strengthens an application significantly at this stage.
Where can I find and apply to production manager jobs in California?
You can find and apply to production manager jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings across entertainment, manufacturing, aerospace, and food production. Find roles that fit your experience and industry focus and apply directly from the listings.
