Professor Jobs in Minneapolis: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a professor job in Minneapolis?
Minneapolis hires professors most heavily through its research universities, community colleges, and healthcare-affiliated academic programs in neighborhoods like the University District and Cedar-Riverside. A terminal degree in your field gives you a strong foundation, but candidates who also bring active research, grant experience, or clinical practice stand out locally. Targeting institutions tied to the Twin Cities medical and tech sectors adds another realistic lane into the market.
Which companies hire professors in Minneapolis?
Employers hiring professors in Minneapolis right now include University of Minnesota and University of Minnesota Physicians, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Minneapolis draws a mix of large research universities, community and technical colleges, and hospital systems with academic teaching missions, making the employer landscape broader than a single institution type.
Are there remote professor jobs in Minneapolis?
Yes, though professor roles vary considerably: lecture-heavy and lab-based positions are almost always on-site, while curriculum development, online instruction, and research roles lean remote. About 2% of professor openings tied to Minneapolis are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting growing online program investment across local institutions. Fully remote teaching roles are most common in continuing education and graduate-level online programs.
How can I get a professor job in Minneapolis with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Minneapolis is adjunct or lecturer work at one of the city's community colleges or university extension programs, which regularly hire candidates with a master's degree and relevant field experience rather than a completed doctorate. Local healthcare training programs and corporate education departments at Minneapolis-area companies also bring in instructors from industry backgrounds. Building a portfolio of course syllabi or instructional materials strengthens an application meaningfully.
Which industries hire the most professors in Minneapolis?
Most professor openings in Minneapolis sit in Healthcare & Medical Services, Education, and Science & Research, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Minneapolis's concentration of research hospitals, engineering programs, and a growing tech sector keeps academic hiring active well beyond traditional liberal arts departments.
