Professor Jobs in Columbus: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a professor job in Columbus?
Columbus hiring concentrates around the University District, where research universities and community colleges cluster, and in downtown and medical corridor settings tied to healthcare and professional education. Candidates with active research agendas, published work, and experience teaching in high-enrollment disciplines like business, nursing, education, and STEM have a clear edge. Attending local academic networking events and connecting with department chairs directly tends to move applications forward faster than broad outreach.
Which companies hire professors in Columbus?
Companies currently hiring professors in Columbus include The Ohio State University, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, and Capital University, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Columbus's mix of large public universities, private liberal arts colleges, and community colleges means professor openings appear across a wide range of institutional sizes and disciplines.
Are there remote professor jobs in Columbus?
Yes, though remote availability depends heavily on the discipline, since lab-based, clinical, and studio courses require on-site presence while lecture-heavy and online-program roles are far more flexible. About 6% of professor openings tied to Columbus are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting growth in continuing education and online degree programs. Adjunct and online-program faculty roles within Columbus institutions tend to be the most remote-compatible positions available.
How can I get a professor job in Columbus with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Columbus is adjunct or visiting faculty work, which multiple Columbus-area community colleges and regional campuses actively use to fill instructional gaps across high-demand programs. Entry-level lecturer and instructor roles in business, allied health, and education are particularly accessible for candidates with a master's degree and relevant professional experience, even without a completed doctorate. Building a record of strong student evaluations and committee participation locally positions candidates well for full-time openings when they arise.
Which industries hire the most professors in Columbus?

Columbus's large public university system, nationally recognized medical programs, and growing professional and continuing education sector drive consistent faculty demand across those fields.
