The SRE Program & Communications Assistant will develop and maintain collaborative relationships amongst pastoral staff, AMS staff/faculty, volunteer catechists, parishioners and parents. The Program & Communications Assistant assists the Director of Religious Education (DRE) with the recruitment, forming, scheduling and on-going communication with the volunteer catechists, assuring that SRE is well resourced to carry out its catechetical and sacramental preparation mission. Assists the DRE in maintaining SRE Safeguarding God’s Children VIRTUS record-keeping for all adults supporting SRE and Families in Faith programming.
The Program & Communications Assistant is a key to all communications, ensuring that the branding, marketing and cadence of messaging to the public, the parish community, catechists and parents provides a strong backbone of communications for SRE. Working closely with the DRE, the Program & Communications Assistant finds and prepares supplemental materials to aid classroom instruction and facilitate learning, worship and prayer experiences for students. The Program & Communications Assistant is involved in the planning of all sacraments and special events, and central to the smooth execution of SRE on two Sundays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays per month.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
General
- Provide back-up to the Administrative Assistant, when needed to answer and direct incoming phone calls and emails, greet and assist parents and students;
- Collect class student attendance and provide to Administrative Assistant for record keeping;
- Be present and available to students, parents, and volunteers at all SRE events;
- Assists DRE to maintain compliance with Archdiocesan policies and procedures.
Catechists & Catechetical Materials
- Lead in scheduling catechists, substitutes and assuring all classes have Safeguarding God’s Children VIRTUS trained adults;
- Assists DRE to maintain Safeguarding God’s Children VIRTUS certification records for all adults supporting SRE and Families in Faith programming;
- Assist DRE in the recruitment of volunteers for catechetical ministry;
- Assist DRE in developing a plan and executing a strong program of catechist formation and on-going communication;
- Assists DRE in creating annual lesson plans, selection and ordering of religious education materials, and the review and adoption of new curriculum, if needed.
Sacraments
- Assist in the overall planning and executing the sacraments of First Penance & Reconciliation and First Holy Communion, including First Penance & Reconciliation Parent Night, First Holy Communion Workshop and First Holy Communion practices.
Communications
- Coordinates closely with the DRE to create a plan of proactive communication that facilitates recruitment of volunteers and students, and invites participation in SRE classes, Families in Faith events, and parish wide opportunities for students and families;
- Works collaboratively with the Parish Communications Team, creates graphics and content for communications, consistent with branding guidelines and style guide for the general public (primarily via social media), parish community (social media, parish bulletin, and parish website) and SRE parents (emails and text messages).
Administrative Support
- Provides back-up administrative support for DRE and SRE Administrative Assistant, as needed.
Requirements
- Practicing Roman Catholic, with catechetical experience preferred;
- Deeply committed to accompanying our students and families on their faith formation journey, and strives to maintain a pastoral posture in all interactions;
- Friendly and possesses strong interpersonal skills;
- Professional and detailed oriented;
- Outstanding communications skills with ability to interface with parish communications team on website updates, bulletin announcements and social media content;
- Team player, ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues in planning common projects;
- Ability to work afternoons, nights and weekends on a regular basis as required by the catechetical and sacramental program;
- Technology savvy with ability to learn and utilize on-line systems and platforms in day-to-day operations;
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education and/or at least 3 years of experience in a Catholic faith formation program;
- Able to occasionally lift 30 lbs and ascend/descend multiple stairs;
- Experience with Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, Forms, Slides, Calendar, etc.) and Canva is desired.
Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
