Project Development Manager Jobs in Richmond: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a project development manager job in Richmond?
Focus your search on Richmond's strongest hiring sectors: energy and utilities, federal and state government contracting, healthcare systems, and commercial real estate development. Jobs cluster in the central business district and Scott's Addition. Candidates who combine PMP certification with demonstrated experience managing cross-functional teams in one of these sectors move fastest. Networking through local chapters of PMI's Central Virginia chapter also gives you a concrete edge.
Which companies hire project development managers in Richmond?
Richmond project development manager roles are posted by QTS, VHB, and RK&K and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Richmond's hiring mix tends to lean toward utilities, health systems, and government-adjacent contractors rather than pure tech firms.
Are there remote project development manager jobs in Richmond?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the role's focus, since project development managers who oversee physical construction or on-site operations are almost always required in person, while those focused on planning, budgeting, and stakeholder coordination can often work remotely. About 50% of project development manager openings tied to Richmond are remote or hybrid as of August 2026. Strategy and business development-oriented roles at Richmond's consulting and government contracting firms are the most likely to offer flexible arrangements.
How can I get a project development manager job in Richmond with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Richmond is through project coordinator or program analyst roles at government contractors or health systems, both of which hire steadily and often promote from within. Organizations like Dominion Energy and VCU Health have structured development programs that bridge coordination experience into management responsibilities. Building familiarity with project management software and earning a CAPM certification strengthens your application before you have years of direct management experience.
Which industries hire the most project development managers in Richmond?
Most project development manager openings in Richmond sit in Agriculture & Farming, Technology & Software, and Consulting & Professional Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Richmond's role as a regional hub for energy utilities, federal contracting, and large health systems creates consistent, year-round demand that is less cyclical than in technology-driven markets.
