Insurance Account Manager Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a insurance account manager in Virginia?
Most employers require an active Virginia insurance producer license, issued by the Virginia Bureau of Insurance under the State Corporation Commission. To obtain it, candidates complete a pre-licensing education course, pass the relevant state exam in Property and Casualty or Life and Health, and submit a license application. A bachelor's degree in business or a related field strengthens candidacy, and industry designations such as the CIC or CISR are valued by Virginia agencies and carriers.
How much do insurance account managers make in Virginia?
Insurance account managers in Virginia earn a median of about $60,520 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $36,310 for the lowest 10% to over $133,100 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire insurance account managers in Virginia?
Employers hiring insurance account managers in Virginia right now include State Farm, HUB International, and Legacy Insurance, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Virginia's mix of large insurance carriers, independent agencies, and government contractor benefit administrators creates a broad employer base with openings at multiple experience levels.
Which Virginia cities have the most insurance account manager jobs?
Chester, Richmond, and Floyd have the most insurance account manager openings in Virginia. Northern Virginia's concentration of federal contractors and corporate headquarters drives high demand for group benefits and commercial accounts, Richmond's role as a major insurance carrier hub supports carrier-side and agency positions, and Virginia Beach's business and military community sustains demand for both personal and commercial lines specialists.
Are there remote insurance account manager jobs in Virginia?
Yes, and they are more common than in many client-facing roles, since account management work centers on communication, policy review, and renewal coordination that translates well to remote settings. About 100% of insurance account manager openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting broader industry adoption of flexible work. Renewal management, certificate processing, and account servicing functions tend to be the most remote-compatible parts of the role.
How can I get hired as a insurance account manager in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is obtaining your Virginia insurance producer license and applying for account coordinator or customer service representative roles at independent agencies or regional carriers in Richmond or Northern Virginia. Employers such as Markel and large independent brokerages regularly bring on licensed entry-level staff to support senior managers. Moving laterally from claims handling or underwriting support is another common route, and completing a CIC or CISR designation course signals commitment that helps candidates without direct account management experience stand out.
Where can I find and apply to insurance account manager jobs in Virginia?
You can find and apply to insurance account manager jobs in Virginia on Migrate Mate, which lists current Virginia openings from employers across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to each employer through the listing.
