Project Management Specialist Jobs in Rhode Island: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project management specialist in Rhode Island?
Rhode Island does not require a state-issued license to work as a project management specialist, so the path runs through education and professional certification. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or a related field, followed by the Project Management Professional credential from the Project Management Institute, which requires documented project experience and a formal exam. Healthcare and defense employers in Rhode Island place particular weight on this credential when evaluating candidates.
How much do project management specialists make in Rhode Island?
Project management specialists in Rhode Island earn a median of about $104,680 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $63,750 for the lowest 10% to over $170,050 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire project management specialists in Rhode Island?
Companies currently hiring project management specialists in Rhode Island include CVS Health, Citizens, and Raytheon, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Rhode Island's defense and healthcare anchors, including established federal contractors and large hospital networks headquartered in and around Providence, tend to post the most consistent openings across experience levels.
Which Rhode Island cities have the most project management specialist jobs?
Providence, Rhode Island, and Cranston account for the largest share of project management specialist openings in Rhode Island. Providence drives the most volume as the state's commercial and healthcare hub, while Cranston and Woonsocket draw demand from defense contractors and manufacturing operations that maintain significant facilities in those communities.
Are there remote project management specialist jobs in Rhode Island?
Yes, and more than many fields. About 57% of project management specialist openings tied to Rhode Island are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the role centers on coordination, documentation, and stakeholder communication rather than physical presence. The positions most likely to be fully remote are in IT project management and business analysis, while roles tied to construction, manufacturing, or on-site operations typically require in-person attendance.
How can I get hired as a project management specialist in Rhode Island with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a project coordinator or program analyst role at one of Rhode Island's large healthcare systems, such as Lifespan or Care New England, which regularly bring in candidates from adjacent administrative or clinical operations backgrounds. Earning a Certified Associate in Project Management credential from the Project Management Institute signals readiness without requiring years of lead experience. Entry candidates from roles like executive assistant, operations coordinator, or data analyst often make the lateral move successfully, particularly in healthcare and financial services organizations based in Providence.
Where can I find and apply to project management specialist jobs in Rhode Island?
