Project Manager Jobs in Durham: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a project manager job in Durham?
Focus your search on Durham's dominant hiring sectors: life sciences, health technology, academic medical institutions, and research-driven organizations concentrated in and around Research Triangle Park and downtown Durham. Candidates who understand regulated environments, cross-functional team coordination, or clinical or biotech workflows have a real edge here. Tailoring your resume to reflect those contexts, rather than generic project delivery, will make you more competitive with the employer types that dominate this market.
Which companies hire project managers in Durham?
Durham project manager roles are posted by IQVIA, Fortrea, and Carollo Engineers and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Durham's hiring base skews toward large research institutions, health systems, biotech companies, and university-linked organizations, so project manager roles here often sit within heavily matrixed or regulated environments.
Are there remote project manager jobs in Durham?
Yes, though it depends on the sector and role type. Project manager positions tied to lab operations, clinical trials, or on-site construction in Durham tend to be in-person, while those in software delivery, program management, or data initiatives are more remote-friendly. About 23% of project manager openings tied to Durham are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with the strongest remote share coming from tech-adjacent and health IT roles in the Research Triangle Park corridor.
How can I get a project manager job in Durham with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Durham is targeting coordinator or associate project manager roles inside health systems, research universities, or biotech organizations, where structured onboarding and large team sizes create genuine room for junior hires. Duke University Health System, UNC Health, and Research Triangle Park-based companies regularly post entry-level program support roles. A project management certificate and demonstrated experience managing timelines in any context, even academic or volunteer work, improves your odds considerably in this market.
Which industries hire the most project managers in Durham?
Durham project manager roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals, and Technology & Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Durham's proximity to major research universities, a dense cluster of biotech and pharmaceutical companies in Research Triangle Park, and a growing health tech sector make those industries the structural backbone of local project manager demand.
