Project Manager Jobs in Rhode Island: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project manager in Rhode Island?
Rhode Island does not issue a state license for project managers, so the path runs through education and professional certification. Most employers in Rhode Island expect at minimum a bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or a related discipline. Earning the Project Management Professional credential from the Project Management Institute is the single most effective step, as it is explicitly requested in a large share of Rhode Island listings, particularly in healthcare, defense, and financial services.
How much do project managers make in Rhode Island?
Project managers in Rhode Island earn a median of about $175,910 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $124,410 for the lowest 10% to over $257,780 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire project managers in Rhode Island?
Employers hiring project managers in Rhode Island right now include CVS Health, AECOM, and BL Companies, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Rhode Island's concentration of healthcare systems, insurance carriers, and defense contractors creates steady year-round demand rather than seasonal hiring spikes.
Which Rhode Island cities have the most project manager jobs?
Providence, Smithfield, and Cranston account for the largest share of project manager openings in Rhode Island. Providence dominates because it is home to the state's major hospital systems, corporate headquarters, and higher education institutions, while suburban and coastal areas like Woonsocket and Newport generate demand through manufacturing operations and naval facilities.
Are there remote project manager jobs in Rhode Island?
Yes, and more than many fields. Project management is largely coordination and communication work, which translates well to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 21% of project manager openings tied to Rhode Island are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how broadly employers have accepted distributed delivery teams. Roles tied to construction sites, clinical operations, or physical facilities programs tend to remain on-site.
How can I get hired as a project manager in Rhode Island with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a coordinator, analyst, or operations role where you already manage timelines or deliverables. Rhode Island's large healthcare employers, including hospital systems affiliated with Brown University, often post project coordinator and associate project manager roles that do not require a PMP. Completing a CAPM credential, building a portfolio of volunteer or academic projects, and targeting IT or operations teams at mid-size Rhode Island insurers and manufacturers gives candidates a concrete edge over unqualified applicants.
Where can I find and apply to project manager jobs in Rhode Island?
You can find and apply to project manager jobs in Rhode Island on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across Providence, Newport, and the broader state. Find roles that fit your experience and specialty and apply directly to the employers posting them.
