QA Analyst Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a qa analyst in Virginia?
Most qa analyst roles in Virginia require a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field, though some employers accept equivalent experience. Virginia has no state-issued license for this role. Candidates strengthen their prospects by earning the ISTQB Foundation Level certification, building hands-on experience with automated testing tools, and, for defense and federal IT work, pursuing the clearance eligibility that Northern Virginia contractors frequently require.
How much do QA analysts make in Virginia?
QA analysts in Virginia earn a median of about $121,590 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $78,820 for the lowest 10% to over $169,200 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire qa analysts in Virginia?
Employers hiring qa analysts in Virginia right now include Food Lion, Data Intelligence, and General Dynamics Information Technology, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Virginia's concentration of federal contractors and defense technology firms means many openings carry clearance preferences and involve software quality work tied to government programs.
Which Virginia cities have the most qa analyst jobs?
Richmond, Reston, and McLean account for the most qa analyst openings in Virginia. Northern Virginia leads because of its dense cluster of federal agencies and defense contractors, Richmond draws demand from financial services and state government IT, and Hampton Roads supports consistent openings through Navy and defense program support organizations based in the region.
Are there remote qa analyst jobs in Virginia?
Yes, and more than most technical fields, since QA work is largely desk-based and tool-driven. About 37% of qa analyst openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting strong demand from software companies and consulting firms that do not require on-site presence. Automation testing and test case management roles are the most frequently listed as fully remote.
How can I get hired as a qa analyst in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving from a technical support, business analyst, or junior developer role into QA testing. Large Virginia defense and IT contractors like Leidos and SAIC run associate-level technology programs that accept candidates who demonstrate scripting basics and a willingness to learn testing frameworks. Earning the ISTQB Foundation certification and building a portfolio of sample test plans or automation scripts on public repositories signals readiness to hiring managers when formal experience is limited.
Where can I find and apply to qa analyst jobs in Virginia?
You can find and apply to qa analyst jobs in Virginia on Migrate Mate, which lists current Virginia openings across Northern Virginia, Richmond, Hampton Roads, and other parts of the state. Find roles that fit your experience and specialization and apply directly to the ones that match.
