QA Engineer Jobs in Wisconsin: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a qa engineer in Wisconsin?
Most qa engineer roles in Wisconsin require a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology, or a closely related field. Wisconsin has no state-issued license specific to qa engineers, so employers focus on technical credentials such as ISTQB certification and demonstrated testing experience. Many candidates enter through internships at Wisconsin's large manufacturing or software firms and build toward full-time roles by developing skills in test automation and quality management systems.
How much do QA engineers make in Wisconsin?
QA engineers in Wisconsin earn a median of about $89,400 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $62,460 for the lowest 10% to over $161,500 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire qa engineers in Wisconsin?
Companies currently hiring qa engineers in Wisconsin include Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals, Catalent Pharma Solutions, and Uline, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Wisconsin's concentration of medical device manufacturers, industrial automation firms, and large healthcare IT companies like Epic Systems makes it a consistent market for QA talent across multiple industries.
Which Wisconsin cities have the most qa engineer jobs?
Madison, La Crosse, and Milwaukee are the Wisconsin cities with the most qa engineer openings. Milwaukee leads because of its dense cluster of manufacturing, financial technology, and healthcare companies, while Madison's market is driven heavily by Epic Systems and the University of Wisconsin's affiliated health and technology operations, and Green Bay draws openings from its food production and industrial manufacturing base.
Are there remote qa engineer jobs in Wisconsin?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 23% of qa engineer openings tied to Wisconsin are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how naturally desk-based software testing work is. Roles focused on software QA, automated test development, and web application testing are the most consistently offered remotely, while positions tied to physical manufacturing or hardware quality inspection typically require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a qa engineer in Wisconsin with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an internship or co-op program at one of Wisconsin's large technology or manufacturing employers, including Epic Systems in Verona or Rockwell Automation in Milwaukee, both of which run structured early-career programs. Candidates without experience often transition from adjacent roles in technical support, business analysis, or manual testing. Earning an ISTQB Foundation certification and building a portfolio of test plans or automation scripts from personal or academic projects significantly improves competitiveness for entry-level postings across Wisconsin.
