Quality Control Technician Jobs in Pennsylvania

United Chemical Technology (UCT) is looking for a Quality Control Supervisor. This position is located in our corporate facility in Bristol, PA.

The Quality Control Supervisor oversees the daily operation of the Quality Control Laboratory and plays a key role in ensuring products meet established quality standards through analytical testing, inspections, and data evaluation throughout the production process. This position supports the quality of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products while providing opportunities to work with and expand knowledge of a variety of analytical instrumentation and laboratory techniques.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supervise the daily operation of the QC lab and oversee daily tasks of the Quality Control Chemist/s and Technicians.
• Approve incoming materials by confirming specifications, conducting appropriate testing, and rejecting and returning unacceptable materials.
• Approve in-process production by confirming required specifications, conducting appropriate tests, and communicating the required adjustments to the production supervisor
• Approve all finished products by confirming specifications and conducting required tests
• Establish inspection protocols and determine equipment and mechanisms to be used in the testing process
• Recommend changes in specifications of materials and products based on inspection results. May formulate and revise quality control policies and procedures.
• Document and update inspection results by completing reports and logs
• Calibrate, troubleshoot and maintain laboratory equipment by following operating instructions and scheduling repairs.
• Responsible for maintaining the LIMS database, raw material specifications and specification files in conjunction with technical service.
• Confer with customer service to assist with resolving customer complaints.
• Ordering and maintaining laboratory supplies.
• Perform as ISO representative to support quality program.
• Supervise and review customer issues and corrective actions.
• Knowledge of safe laboratory practices required.
• Recommend training for QC chemists and technicians.
• Complete annual performance reviews for QC chemists and technicians.
• Perform shipping inspections as needed.

Education and Experience Qualifications:

• BS or BA in Chemistry.
• At least 2 years of laboratory experience.
• Management experience a plus.
• At least 2 years of laboratory management experience.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, the ability to interpret process data, identify trends, and communicate findings.
• Significant experience with instrumental analysis including GC, IR, GC-MS, XRF and ICP-OES.
• At least 2 years of Laboratory Information Managements System (LIMS) experience.
• Experience troubleshooting and maintaining instruments.
• Experience in a variety of wet chemical analyses.

Working Environment:

• Physical Environment: Laboratory environment.
• Required to always follow OSHA and company policies on respiratory protection. If determined you are required to wear a respirator, it is mandatory and company policy that you must then be cleanly shaven while on company premises.
• While performing this job, the employee may be required to sit and stand for an extended period.
• Will be required to occasionally perform work in high heat and humidity as well as extreme cold.
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by the job include but are not limited to close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception, the ability to differentiate color variations, letters, numbers and the ability to adjust focus.
• Employees will be required to always wear ANSI approved eye protection while performing job duties. This will include but not be limited to safety glasses, non-venting goggles and or full-face shield. Contact lenses are not permitted in UCT lab spaces.
• Employees will be required to wear approved foot protection while performing daily job duties. This foot protection will include boots with a 6” minimum height and Aluminum, Composite or Steel toe while performing daily job duties.
• Employees will be required to wear protective garments consisting of lab coats or combinations of flame-retardant uniform shirts and pants while performing job duties in predetermined work spaces.
• Candidate/employee may be exposed to hazardous chemicals and hazardous waste.
• The candidate/employee will be required to successfully manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
• Candidate/employee may be exposed to materials classified as bio-hazardous or substances containing bloodborne pathogens.
• The candidate/employee may be exposed to airborne particulates such as powders and respirable dust.
• Employees may be required to perform work tasks from an elevated height using a step stool, ladder or elevated work platform.
• The employee will be required to operate manual and automated equipment and machinery. This equipment may present the operator with various hazards from moving parts which may cut, crush, pinch and amputate body parts if not operated correctly. Mechanical hazards which exist include entanglement, friction, abrasion, shearing, stabbing, puncturing, impact, draw-in or trapping. (Is this a requirement for a QC Supervisor?)
• Processing and packaging equipment required to complete job duties may pose burning or freeze hazards to the employee. (Is this a requirement for a QC Supervisor?)
• The employee job responsibilities will include safe use of material handling equipment including pallet jacks, hand trucks, lift trucks, cylinder carts and other related equipment. This equipment may present the employee with hazards stemming from unintended release of high-pressure fluids.
