We are seeking an experienced, reliable, thorough, and compassionate Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) who takes pride in providing excellent preventive and periodontal care and building long-term relationships with patients.

The ideal candidate is clinically strong, attentive to detail, comfortable educating patients, organized with documentation, and committed to helping patients achieve and maintain excellent long-term oral health.

Experience with periodontal therapy, digital radiography, Dentrix Ascend, and patient education is highly preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish is also a plus.

Key ResponsibilitiesPreventive & Periodontal Care

• Perform comprehensive dental hygiene services, including adult and pediatric prophylaxis, scaling, root planing, and polishing.
• Perform periodontal maintenance procedures and scaling and root planing (SRP) as clinically appropriate and authorized.
• Conduct thorough periodontal assessments, including periodontal charting, probing depths, recession, bleeding, mobility, and other relevant findings.
• Identify and document signs of periodontal disease and communicate clinical findings to the dentist.
• Monitor periodontal health and treatment progress during continuing-care visits.
• Apply fluoride treatments, desensitizing agents, and sealants when appropriate and within the hygienist's authorized scope of practice.
• Maintain a high standard of clinical care without compromising patient comfort or treatment quality.

Patient Assessment

• Review and update medical and dental histories at every appropriate visit.
• Identify relevant medical conditions, medications, allergies, and contraindications before treatment.
• Take and document blood pressure and other appropriate vital signs.
• Perform intraoral and extraoral observations and assist in oral cancer screening.
• Recognize abnormalities or areas of concern and communicate findings promptly to the dentist.
• Use clinical findings and patient history to help support individualized preventive and periodontal care recommendations in collaboration with the dentist.

Digital Radiography & Clinical Technology

• Take high-quality diagnostic digital X-rays, including bitewings, periapical images, and full-mouth series when prescribed or appropriate.
• Ensure radiographs are diagnostically useful while following proper radiation safety protocols.
• Review radiographic images for quality and communicate relevant observations to the dentist.
• Use intraoral cameras and other available dental imaging technology to assist with patient education and clinical documentation.
• Accurately document clinical findings and treatment in Dentrix Ascend.

Patient Education

• Educate patients on proper brushing, flossing, interdental cleaning, and other home-care techniques.
• Explain periodontal conditions and the importance of recommended treatment and maintenance intervals in clear, patient-friendly language.
• Discuss preventive strategies that support lifelong oral health.
• Discuss the relationship between oral health and overall health when clinically relevant.
• Provide individualized recommendations for home-care products based on each patient's needs.
• Reinforce treatment recommendations made by the dentist and help patients understand the importance of completing necessary dental care.

Patient Experience

• Create a comfortable, respectful, welcoming, and professional experience for every patient.
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients who may be anxious or apprehensive about dental treatment.
• Maintain appropriate appointment flow while ensuring that patients never feel rushed.
• Build long-term relationships with patients and encourage consistency with preventive and periodontal care.
• Provide age-appropriate care and communication for pediatric patients when scheduled.

Clinical Documentation & Patient Privacy

• Complete accurate and detailed clinical notes for every patient encounter.
• Document periodontal findings, treatment performed, radiographs, patient education, recommendations, and follow-up instructions.
• Ensure all documentation is completed accurately and promptly in Dentrix Ascend.
• Maintain complete and legally appropriate patient records.
• Protect patient confidentiality and safeguard all patient health information in accordance with HIPAA requirements and office privacy policies.
• Handle electronic and physical patient records professionally and confidentially at all times.

Recare & Continuity of Care

• Help maintain strong patient compliance with recommended hygiene and periodontal maintenance intervals.
• Clearly communicate the recommended recare interval before the patient leaves the operatory.
• Coordinate with the Front Desk regarding patients who require future hygiene, periodontal maintenance, or follow-up appointments.
• Identify overdue or incomplete periodontal treatment and communicate appropriately with the clinical and administrative team.
• Help minimize missed opportunities for necessary preventive and periodontal care.

Infection Control & Safety

• Follow all office infection-control, sterilization, and safety protocols.
• Maintain treatment rooms in accordance with OSHA, CDC, and applicable New York State requirements.
• Follow appropriate aseptic techniques and infection-prevention procedures throughout patient care.
• Properly disinfect operatories between patients.
• Handle and dispose of sharps and clinical materials safely.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and fully prepared hygiene operatory.

Team Collaboration

• Communicate clinical findings clearly with the dentist and dental assistants.
• Work closely with the Front Desk to maintain efficient patient flow and continuity of care.
• Assist the clinical team when appropriate and contribute to a cooperative work environment.
• Participate in team meetings and help identify opportunities to improve patient care and office efficiency.
• Support an organized and efficient clinical environment while maintaining patient comfort as the priority.

Requirements

• Active New York State Dental Hygienist license (Required).
• Graduate of an accredited dental hygiene program.
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Dental Hygiene.
• Current CPR/BLS certification.
• Strong clinical skills in preventive and periodontal dental hygiene.
• Proficiency with periodontal charting and scaling and root planing.
• Ability to take high-quality digital dental radiographs.
• Strong knowledge of dental anatomy, dental terminology, medical terminology, infection control, and clinical documentation.
• Comfortable using electronic dental records and dental practice management software.
• Experience with Dentrix Ascend preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to educate patients clearly regarding oral hygiene, periodontal health, preventive care, and treatment recommendations.
• Ability to work effectively in a busy dental practice while maintaining excellent patient care and attention to detail.
• Understanding of HIPAA requirements and patient confidentiality standards.

Preferred:

• 3+ years of clinical dental hygiene experience.
• New York State Dental Hygiene Restricted Local Infiltration Anesthesia/Nitrous Oxide Analgesia Certification.
• Experience treating periodontal patients and performing SRP.
• Experience with Dentrix Ascend.
• Experience with intraoral cameras and digital dental technology.
• Experience working with pediatric patients.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Experience

• Dental Hygiene: 3 years preferred.

• Dentrix Ascend experience: Preferred.

Licenses / Certifications
