What You'll Do
You will be the face and voice of Edmentum for students who depend on you to show up every day, live on camera, fully present and fully prepared. As a Virtual Computer Science Teacher, you bring your classroom to life through a screen: connecting with students in real time, personalizing learning for every individual, and creating an online environment where students feel seen, supported, and motivated to succeed. Live, synchronous, on-camera instruction is the heart of this role — it is what our students, families, and partner schools depend on every instructional day. This role is for educators who thrive in a fast-moving digital environment and who believe that great live teaching is the core of great learning, regardless of the medium.
In this role you will:
- Deliver live, on-camera synchronous instruction for five (5) or more hours per day, every scheduled instructional day, creating an engaging and structured virtual classroom experience that inspires student participation and achievement. This live instructional delivery is an essential function of the role.
- Use student performance data to personalize instruction, identify learning gaps, and adapt your approach to meet each student where they are.
- Provide timely, meaningful feedback on student work and maintain accurate records that keep students and families informed and on track.
- Build genuine relationships with students and families through professional, proactive communication that fosters trust and shared accountability for learning outcomes.
- Collaborate with school partners and Edmentum colleagues to ensure students receive consistent, high-quality support across their learning experience.
Who You Are
- You hold a Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field and an active state teaching license in Alabama in CTE-Computer Science grades 6-12..
- You have experience teaching in virtual and/or in-person settings and are comfortable with the unique demands of a live online classroom.
- You are confident and engaging on camera, able to teach live for five (5) or more consecutive hours per day, every instructional day, and build real connection with students through a screen.
- You have hands-on experience with online learning platforms, virtual instruction tools, and standard productivity software.
- You are data-informed: you know how to read student performance data and use it to adjust your live instruction in meaningful ways.
- You are an excellent communicator, in writing and verbally, and you know how to meet students, families, and colleagues where they are.
- You are highly organized and self-directed, with the time management skills to independently manage a full student caseload in a remote environment.
- You are committed to your own professional growth, maintaining certification and staying current on K-12 curriculum, technology, and best practices.
- You bring integrity, warmth, and a deep belief that every student can succeed, values that align with Edmentum's mission.
- You are willing to take on evolving responsibilities based on business needs.

Tips for Your Remote Computer Science Job Search
Apply early to remote roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists remote computer science openings from across the U.S. in one place. Search by role and apply directly to positions that match your skills, so you reach hiring teams before openings fill.
Build a portfolio that shows async delivery
Remote employers want evidence you ship without hand-holding. Publish your projects on GitHub with clear READMEs, commit histories, and documented decision-making so hiring managers can assess your work before an interview.
Sharpen your written technical communication
Remote computer science teams run on written communication. Practice writing clear pull request descriptions, concise bug reports, and structured technical proposals, since these skills come up in take-home assessments and day-to-day remote work.
Target remote-first companies specifically
Remote-first firms have infrastructure built around distributed teams, which means fewer coordination problems and clearer async workflows for computer sciences. Look for companies whose engineering blog or job postings explicitly describe a remote-first or all-remote culture.
Remote Computer Science Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote computer science job?
Target companies that run distributed engineering teams, such as remote-first SaaS firms, open-source organizations, and tech consultancies that hire across time zones. Remote employers screen for self-direction, strong async written communication, and proficiency in collaborative tools like Git, Jira, and Slack. A portfolio of shipped projects or open-source contributions gives you a concrete edge over candidates who rely on credentials alone.
Which companies hire remote computer sciences?
Remote computer science roles are posted by The Cincinnati Insurance Companies, Edmentum, and Handshake and others right now, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. These include remote-first software companies, distributed product teams in fintech and healthtech, and large technology firms that run fully remote engineering departments.
Can you get a remote computer science job with no experience?
Yes, but remote entry-level roles are harder to land because employers expect you to work independently from day one without in-person mentorship. Remote-first startups and open-source projects are the most accessible entry points. A GitHub portfolio, completed personal projects, or contributions to public codebases can substitute for formal work history and demonstrate you can deliver without supervision.
Do you need a degree for remote computer science jobs?
Not always. Many remote employers weight demonstrated coding ability, a strong project portfolio, and relevant certifications alongside or instead of a formal degree. Roles at remote-first startups and product teams often care more about what you've built and your problem-solving process than where you studied, though senior positions at larger firms may still list degree requirements.
