Assistant Project Manager – Residential Construction

Location: Norwalk, Connecticut, with regular travel to job sites throughout Connecticut
Position: Full-time, field-based
Total compensation: $85,000–$105,000 per year, including base salary and project-based profit sharing

We use technology, detailed schedules, standardized processes, and clear accountability to keep projects running smoothly. We are looking for an ambitious and highly organized construction professional who wants to grow into full project management responsibility.

This could be an excellent next step for an Assistant Project Manager, residential foreman, lead carpenter, or early-career Project Manager.

The Role

This is a field-based and customer-facing position—not a desk-only or primarily remote role. You will regularly visit active job sites, coordinate subcontractors, maintain project schedules, and serve as a day-to-day point of contact for customers.

You should be comfortable moving between a jobsite and a computer: checking workmanship in the field, directing subcontractors, updating a Gantt chart, documenting progress, and sending a polished customer update.

What You Will Do

• Support and increasingly manage ground-up residential projects from pre-construction through completion.
• Serve as a primary day-to-day point of contact for assigned customers.
• Send weekly customer updates covering completed work, upcoming activities, schedule status, decisions needed, and open issues.
• Create, maintain, and update detailed Gantt-chart project schedules.
• Coordinate subcontractors, inspections, materials, customer decisions, and project milestones.
• Visit job sites regularly to confirm progress, workmanship, safety, and compliance with plans.
• Provide clear, respectful, and firm direction to subcontractors and vendors.
• Track budgets, change orders, documents, photographs, and outstanding decisions using company systems.
• Identify schedule conflicts, quality concerns, customer issues, and potential cost overruns early.
• Follow standardized processes and help improve them as the company grows.
• Assist with practical troubleshooting and occasional punch-list work when appropriate. This is not primarily a labor position.
• Grow into independent responsibility for assigned projects.

What We Are Looking For

• At least three years of residential construction experience.
• Practical knowledge of ground-up home construction, from foundations and framing through mechanical systems and finishes.
• Ability to read residential plans and understand construction sequencing.
• Experience coordinating or directing subcontractors, tradespeople, or crews.
• Strong customer-service skills and a professional, customer-ready presence.
• Clear and polished verbal and written communication.
• Excellent organization, follow-through, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail.
• Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly learn new technology.
• Comfort using spreadsheets, cloud-based documents, email, CRM systems, and construction project-management software.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regularly to Connecticut job sites.
• A team-first mindset: ambitious, humble, smart, dependable, and coachable.

Experience with Connecticut building codes, permitting, inspections, or ADU construction is helpful but not required.

You do not need to have previously held the title of Project Manager. We value construction knowledge, leadership potential, ownership, technological aptitude, and willingness to learn.
