Forward Deployed Software Engineer
About Convr: Convr is an AI underwriting, data, and intelligent document automation workbench built for commercial P&C insurers. We help carriers, MGAs, and brokers accelerate premium growth, improve risk insights, and drive operational efficiency. Founded in 2016, Convr transforms outdated, manual processes into structured, decision-ready workflows. Our modular platform manages underwriting from submission through quote with a purpose-built AI decisioning context engine – grounded in a commercial insurance ontology – ensuring complete data and smarter decisions, faster, while enabling a frictionless experience and superior performance. As we scale, we’re building a team shaping the future of commercial underwriting. Join us in modernizing commercial insurance with modern AI.
Role Overview: We are looking for a Forward Deployed Software Engineer (FDSE) who thrives at the intersection of high-level architecture and deep-stack technical execution. This isn't a "one-off" integration role. You are a hybrid of a software engineer, product strategist, and technical consultant.
You will embed with our most strategic customers to solve their most complex problems. However, your mission is dual-purpose: while you deliver immediate value to the customer, you are simultaneously acting as a product scout. You will identify patterns in customer needs and translate those into scalable, core features for our SaaS platform.
What You'll be Doing:
- Lead the design and implementation of new features in our core SaaS product. You aren't just building for one user; you are building for the platform.
- Work across the entire stack, from optimizing database queries and API endpoints to crafting intuitive UI/UX.
- Architect production-ready integrations and workflows. You will lead technical workshops with stakeholders to define "future state" solutions.
- Write high-quality, type-safe, and maintainable code in TypeScript, leveraging modern React and Next.js patterns for performance and scalability.
- Prevent "bespoke bloat." Identify universal customer needs and collaborate with product and engineering teams to bake those into the core technical direction.
- Contribute to CI/CD, testing, and performance monitoring to ensure the stability and reliability of your deployments.
- Mentor teammates and establish engineering best practices to level up the entire team’s output.
Who You Are:
- You think in terms of scalability. When you build a solution for one customer, you’re already thinking about how it could benefit the next ten.
- You take 100% ownership of the success of your deployments. You don't wait for a ticket; you find the bottleneck and fix it.
- You are as comfortable whiteboarding a system diagram for a CTO as you are submitting a pull request for a mission-critical API endpoint.
Experience Requirements:
- 10+ years of professional experience in full-stack or frontend development, specifically within SaaS products or startup environments.
- Strong coder with shown proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, Java, C++, or similar.
- Strong experience in Commercial P&C Insurance and understanding of the underwriting lifecycle (submission through quote)
- Hands-on experience with Next.js App Router (server components, layouts, streaming, caching).
- Experience with tRPC or equivalent type-safe API frameworks.
- Experience implementing complex, data-heavy views with Tailwind and component libraries (shadcn/ui, Mantine, etc.). Background in UI/UX design or working closely with designers is highly preferred.
- Ability to design scalable systems and a solid understanding of frontend performance, state management, and accessibility.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work autonomously, acting as a consultant/partner to our customers while remaining accountable for deliverables.
- Ability and interest to travel up to 20% as needed to customer sites.
Benefits & Compensation
- Remote work
- Flexible Paid Time Off
- Company Paid Holidays
- Insurance Coverage (medical, dental, vision, short-term & long-term disability, life insurance, and accident coverage)
- 401K
- Paid Parental Leave
Why Join Convr? Joining our team means becoming a vital part of a high-growth, entrepreneurial mission to redefine the commercial insurance industry. We’ve traded corporate silos for radical transparency and a shared ownership mentality, ensuring that every voice is heard, and no one is just a number. We believe in the power of flexibility because we know life happens, and we empower our people with the autonomy to maintain a genuine work-life balance. As a team of experts striving for excellence, we will challenge you to develop your career and sharpen your craft alongside passionate colleagues who are committed to your success as they are to our collective impact.

Tips for Your Remote Forward Deployed Engineering Job Search
Apply early to remote roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists remote forward deployed engineering openings from across the country in one place, so you can find roles that match your background and apply directly without sorting through unrelated listings.
Document your async communication style
Remote forward deployed employers screen for candidates who can communicate technical decisions in writing. Build a portfolio of architecture notes, Notion runbooks, or Loom walkthroughs that show you can replace an in-person whiteboard session with a written artifact a customer team can act on.
Highlight customer-environment ownership on your resume
Remote hiring managers want evidence you have owned a customer account end to end, not just contributed to one. Name the stack, the integration surface, and the outcome. Phrases like 'sole technical contact for enterprise deployment' signal the independence remote forward deployed roles require.
Prepare for remote technical screen formats
Remote forward deployed interviews often include a live troubleshooting exercise over video where you diagnose a broken integration or misconfigured environment in real time. Practice narrating your diagnostic process clearly while working, since remote employers are evaluating how you communicate under pressure as much as how you solve the problem.
Remote Forward Deployed Engineering Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote forward deployed engineering job?
Target companies that run distributed customer success or solutions engineering teams, since those organizations already have the infrastructure for remote forward deployed work. Remote hiring managers screen hard for written communication, async documentation habits, and the ability to triage customer issues without hand-holding. A portfolio showing customer-facing technical projects, architecture writeups, or integration work you shipped independently gives you a clear edge over candidates with similar credentials.
Which companies hire remote forward deployed engineerings?
Remote forward deployed engineering roles are posted by Eliza, Provectus, and Cresta and others right now, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. The companies hiring most consistently are remote-first enterprise software vendors, developer infrastructure firms, and defense technology contractors that embed technical staff directly with distributed customer accounts.
Can you get a remote forward deployed engineering job with no experience?
Yes, but remote entry-level forward deployed roles are harder to land because employers expect you to troubleshoot customer environments without much oversight from day one. Smaller SaaS companies and early-stage developer tooling startups are the most likely to hire entry-level remotely. Showing a GitHub portfolio with real integration work, a history of async technical communication like open-source contributions or detailed bug reports, and comfort with customer-facing writing opens the door significantly.
Do you need a degree for remote forward deployed engineering jobs?
Not always. Many remote employers in this space care more about demonstrable skills than credentials, particularly in software infrastructure, developer tooling, and defense tech where hands-on results speak loudly. What consistently matters remotely is a provable ability to understand a customer environment quickly, communicate technical tradeoffs in writing, and deliver without close supervision. Relevant certifications and a strong project history can substitute effectively for a formal degree.
Which industries hire the most remote forward deployed engineerings?
Remote forward deployed engineering roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Consulting & Professional Services, and Science & Research, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Those sectors hire forward deployed engineerings remotely because their customer bases are geographically distributed and their products require deep on-account technical expertise that a centralized team cannot deliver in person at scale.
