Tips for Your Remote Therapist Job Search
Set up a HIPAA-compliant home workspace first
Remote therapist employers ask about your physical setup before extending offers. Have a private, lockable room, a reliable internet connection, and a HIPAA-compliant video platform ready. Being able to describe your setup concretely signals you can start without delays.
Apply early to remote roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists remote therapist openings from across the U.S. in one place, so you can find roles that match your license, specialty, and availability and apply directly without sorting through unrelated listings.
Lead your resume with telehealth platform experience
Remote employers scan for hands-on experience with video therapy platforms and electronic health records like SimplePractice or Therapy Brands. List the specific tools you've used and the caseload size you managed remotely to make your application immediately relevant.
Prepare for async communication in remote interviews
Many remote therapy employers use written screening questions or async video interviews before a live call. Practice answering clinical scenario questions in writing clearly and concisely, since your written communication style is itself a signal of how you'll document sessions and coordinate with supervisors.
Verify your license covers telehealth across state lines
Remote roles often serve clients in multiple states. Check whether your state participates in the Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact or the LCSW licensure portability agreements before applying to roles that list multi-state caseloads, so you can confirm eligibility during the interview.
Remote Therapist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote therapist job?
Target companies that have built their delivery model around remote care, such as telehealth platforms, digital mental health startups, and employee assistance program providers. Remote employers screen for comfort with async communication, the ability to manage your own caseload without on-site supervision, and proficiency with teletherapy platforms and electronic health records. Strong written documentation skills and a quiet, HIPAA-compliant home setup give candidates a clear edge.
Which companies hire remote therapists?
Remote therapist roles are posted by Humana, Presence, and Brightside Health and others right now, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. These include telehealth companies, digital behavioral health platforms, and distributed employee assistance program providers that deliver care entirely through virtual channels.
Can you get a remote therapist job with no experience?
Yes, but remote entry-level therapist roles are harder to land because employers expect you to manage a caseload independently from day one without in-office support. Telehealth startups and group practices that offer supervised associate positions are the most common entry points. Demonstrating comfort with video platforms, showing practicum or internship hours in a virtual setting, and highlighting strong written communication can open those doors.
Do you need a degree for remote therapist jobs?
Usually, yes. Most remote therapist roles require at minimum a master's degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or a related field, along with state licensure. Remote employers weigh active licensure and clinical hours heavily because virtual practice carries the same regulatory requirements as in-person care. Some entry-level or paraprofessional remote support roles accept a bachelor's degree, but licensed therapist positions consistently require graduate credentials.
Which industries hire the most remote therapists?
Remote therapist roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services, Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals, and Insurance, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. These sectors rely on distributed teams to deliver mental health, behavioral health, and employee wellness services to clients and employees located anywhere in the country.
