Roofing Jobs in South Carolina: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a roofing contractor in South Carolina?
To work as a licensed roofing contractor in South Carolina, you must obtain a license through the South Carolina Contractor's Licensing Board. Applicants typically need documented work experience in the trade, must pass the South Carolina roofing contractor examination, and carry the required liability insurance and workers' compensation coverage. For entry-level roofing positions without a contractor license, most employers hire based on on-the-job training, physical fitness, and a willingness to learn.
Which companies hire roofings in South Carolina?
Employers hiring roofings in South Carolina right now include Strong Roofing, Best Choice Roofing, and Allstar Home Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. South Carolina's active storm season and ongoing residential and commercial construction across the Upstate and Lowcountry regions keep roofing employer demand consistently high throughout the year.
Which South Carolina cities have the most roofing jobs?
Greenville, Spartanburg, and Charleston have the most roofing openings in South Carolina. Columbia and Greenville drive volume through their large and growing residential construction and commercial development sectors, while Charleston's coastal storm exposure and rapid population growth generate persistent demand for both new installation and storm repair crews in and around the metro area.
Are there remote roofing jobs in South Carolina?
Yes, but they're rare. About 17% of roofing openings tied to South Carolina are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the hands-on, on-site nature of the trade. The portions of roofing work most likely to be performed remotely are estimating, project coordination, and sales roles at larger South Carolina roofing contractors and regional commercial firms.
How can I get hired as a roofing worker in South Carolina with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying as a roofing laborer or helper with an established South Carolina contractor that provides on-the-job training. Large commercial roofing firms and regional residential contractors in the Columbia and Greenville markets regularly bring on helpers with no prior roofing experience. Workers moving from adjacent trades like general construction, framing, or siding have a strong advantage. Enrolling in an apprenticeship through a local union or trade program strengthens a candidate's long-term prospects significantly.
