Entry Level Safety Technician Jobs

UTHealth Houston is seeking a Safety Technician Assistant to provide basic technical assistance in enforcing policies and regulations related to the control of environmental and occupational hazards. You will be supporting the safety-related committees at UTHealth Houston, including the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), Radiation Safety Committee, and Chemical Safety Committee. The majority of the responsibilities will be administrative in nature and will not often involve fieldwork or lab work. Job tasks include setting up meetings, calendaring, communicating with researchers, tracking progress with protocol submissions, and taking meeting minutes. You will be working with tracking where things are, such as document approvals and other internal processes. You should have a basic understanding of science and have the ability to read through regulatory and policy documents. If you have served or supported a safety committee before, such as an Institutional Biosafety Committee, that will be a plus.

Position Summary:

Provides basic technical assistance in the enforcement of policies and regulations relating to the control of environmental and occupational hazards.

Essential Functions:

• Enters information from basic safety surveys and research protocols to ensure the safety of employees, students, and the public.
• Provides basic technical assistance and administrative support to safety specialists and/or the safety manager. You will concentrate on administrative work for the safety committees, including the Institutional Biosafety Committee, Radiation Safety Committee, and Chemical Safety Committee.
• Assists with the maintenance of records and files of all surveys, inspections, and incidents to assure compliance with department, state, and federal requirements.
• Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent required

Minimum Experience:

There is no minimum experience required.

Preferred Experience:

A degree in basic sciences. And previous work with a safety committee, such as an Institutional Biosafety Committee.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.

Security Sensitive:

This position is a security-sensitive position pursuant to Texas Education Code §51.215 and Texas Government Code §411.094. To the extent that a position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Texas Business and Commerce Code §117.001(2), the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired for and to continue to be employed in that position. Personnel in such positions, and similarly situated state contractors, will be routinely reviewed to determine whether things such as criminal history or continuous connections to the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the applicant, employee, or contractor from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure. A foreign adversary is a nation listed in 15 C.F.R. §791.4.

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
