Science Teacher Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a science teacher in Texas?
To become a science teacher in Texas, you must earn a teaching certificate issued by the Texas Education Agency. The standard path is completing an approved educator preparation program, then passing the appropriate TExES subject-area exam for your science specialty, such as chemistry, physics, or life science. Candidates who already hold a relevant degree can enter through an alternative certification program and test into the classroom.
Which companies hire science teachers in Texas?
Employers hiring science teachers in Texas right now include IDEA Public Schools, Spring Independent School District, and Denton Independent School District, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large independent school districts, growing charter networks, and private preparatory schools are the most consistent sources of open science teaching positions across the state.
Which Texas cities have the most science teacher jobs?
Houston, Midland, and Pflugerville are the Texas cities with the most science teacher openings, driven by the sheer size of their school districts and the rapid population growth that keeps adding new campuses and classrooms. Smaller suburban cities around Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston also generate steady openings as their fast-expanding communities build out new secondary schools.
Are there remote science teacher jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Science teaching is a fundamentally hands-on role built around lab work, demonstrations, and direct student interaction, so the vast majority of positions are on-site. About 0% of science teacher openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with virtual options concentrated in online charter schools and curriculum development or instructional coaching roles.
How can I get hired as a science teacher in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing an alternative certification program, which allows degree holders to teach while finishing their credential requirements. Texas programs like Region 4 ESC's ACP or the iTeach Texas program are widely accepted by large districts. Applying as a long-term substitute or instructional aide in a district where you want to teach builds a classroom record, and passing your TExES subject-area exam early signals readiness to hiring principals.
Where can I find and apply to science teacher jobs in Texas?
