Security Manager Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a security manager in Tennessee?
Most security managers in Tennessee advance from frontline security roles after gaining supervisory experience and earning professional credentials. Tennessee regulates security officer companies and armed personnel through the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance, so familiarity with state licensing requirements is expected from candidates overseeing security staff. Employers typically look for a bachelor's degree in criminal justice or security management alongside certifications like the ASIS Certified Protection Professional, which signals readiness for management-level responsibility.
How much do security managers make in Tennessee?
Security managers in Tennessee earn a median of about $106,730 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $70,010 for the lowest 10% to over $167,990 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire security managers in Tennessee?
Employers hiring security managers in Tennessee right now include Deloitte, FedEx, and SpaceX, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Tennessee's mix of large healthcare networks, federal research facilities, and major logistics hubs creates steady, year-round demand for experienced security management professionals.
Which Tennessee cities have the most security manager jobs?
Nashville, Memphis, and Hermitage have the most security manager openings in Tennessee. Nashville leads because of its dense concentration of healthcare systems, corporate headquarters, and hospitality venues, while Memphis is driven by major logistics and distribution operations, and Knoxville's demand reflects the federal research and government contractor presence anchored by Oak Ridge.
Are there remote security manager jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, but they're rare. About 50% of security manager openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, since most roles require direct oversight of physical sites, personnel, and access control systems. The portions of the work most likely to be done remotely include policy development, compliance reporting, and vendor coordination.
How can I get hired as a security manager in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as a security officer or shift supervisor, then moving into a security coordinator or assistant manager role before stepping into full management. Large Tennessee employers like HCA Healthcare and major logistics operators in the Memphis area regularly hire entry-level security staff who can grow into supervisory tracks. Earning an ASIS Physical Security Professional certificate and gaining experience with access control or incident reporting software can accelerate that transition considerably.
