Most hiring managers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a closely related field, with a master's degree common at larger financial and media firms. Candidates build toward senior standing by accumulating hands-on experience with enterprise BI platforms, cloud data infrastructure, and stakeholder-facing reporting in industries like finance, healthcare, or media that dominate New York hiring.
How much do senior business intelligence engineers make in New York?
Senior business intelligence engineers in New York earn a median of about $130,460 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $73,330 for the lowest 10% to over $214,080 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior business intelligence engineers in New York?

New York's concentration of financial institutions, insurance companies, and large media groups means demand for senior-level BI engineering talent remains consistent throughout the year.
Which New York cities have the most senior business intelligence engineer jobs?
New York, Rye, and Buffalo account for the largest share of senior business intelligence engineer openings in New York. New York City dominates because of its density of financial services firms, global media companies, and large healthcare systems, while Albany draws openings tied to state government technology initiatives and insurance sector headquarters, and Buffalo has seen growth from regional healthcare networks and manufacturing analytics teams.
Are there remote senior business intelligence engineer jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. Senior business intelligence engineering is a desk-based, highly analytical role that translates well to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 61% of senior business intelligence engineer openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how broadly employers in finance and tech have adopted flexible work policies. Dashboard development, data modeling, and stakeholder reporting are the functions most commonly performed fully remote.
How can I get hired as a senior business intelligence engineer in New York with little or no experience?

Large New York employers like Deloitte, Cognizant, and major health systems hire associate-level analysts through new-graduate programs and rotational technology tracks.
