Senior Devops Engineer Jobs in West Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior devops engineer in West Virginia?
Senior devops engineer roles in West Virginia do not require a state-issued license, so the path runs through education and verified technical experience. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field, combined with years of hands-on devops work. Government contracting employers common in West Virginia often require or prefer candidates who can obtain a federal security clearance, which starts with U.S. citizenship and a background check through the relevant agency.
How much do senior devops engineers make in West Virginia?
Senior devops engineers in West Virginia earn a median of about $121,000 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $60,480 for the lowest 10% to over $168,620 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior devops engineers in West Virginia?
Employers hiring senior devops engineers in West Virginia right now include CVS Health, West Virginia University, and CommuniCare Health Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. West Virginia's concentration of federal contracting firms and healthcare networks means many openings carry security clearance preferences or healthcare compliance requirements.
Which West Virginia cities have the most senior devops engineer jobs?
Charleston, Morgantown, and West Virginia account for the largest share of senior devops engineer openings in West Virginia. Charleston drives volume through its government agency offices and defense contractors, Morgantown benefits from West Virginia University's research and healthcare technology ecosystem, and Huntington draws openings from regional healthcare systems and energy-sector IT operations.
Are there remote senior devops engineer jobs in West Virginia?
Yes, and more than most fields, since devops work is largely infrastructure and code rather than on-site physical work. About 52% of senior devops engineer openings tied to West Virginia are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, making it one of the more location-flexible roles in the state's tech market. Pipeline management, cloud operations, and monitoring tasks are the functions most commonly performed fully remote.
How can I get hired as a senior devops engineer in West Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a junior systems administrator or cloud support role at one of West Virginia's federal contractors or healthcare IT teams and building devops skills on the job. West Virginia University and Shepherd University offer IT and computer science programs whose graduates regularly place into entry-level infrastructure roles at regional employers. Earning cloud certifications from AWS or Microsoft Azure significantly strengthens a resume for employers in Charleston and Morgantown who need cleared or clearance-eligible candidates at the associate level.
Where can I find and apply to senior devops engineer jobs in West Virginia?
You can find and apply to senior devops engineer jobs in West Virginia on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the listings, identify roles that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to each one.
