Senior Financial Reporting Accountant Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior financial reporting accountant in California?
Most senior financial reporting accountants in California hold a CPA license issued by the California Board of Accountancy, which requires passing the Uniform CPA Examination and meeting California's education and experience requirements. A bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is the standard entry point. Candidates typically progress through staff and senior accountant roles, often with experience in public accounting, before moving into financial reporting at the senior level.
How much do senior financial reporting accountants make in California?
Senior financial reporting accountants in California earn a median of about $97,050 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $61,770 for the lowest 10% to over $160,520 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior financial reporting accountants in California?
Employers hiring senior financial reporting accountants in California right now include Create Music, Lambda, and Mattel, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of publicly traded technology, entertainment, and financial services companies means demand for SEC-focused reporting experience is especially strong here.
Which California cities have the most senior financial reporting accountant jobs?
Los Angeles, El Segundo, and Newport Beach have the most senior financial reporting accountant openings in California. The distribution follows the state's headquarters density: the San Francisco Bay Area draws from its concentration of publicly traded tech and biotech firms, while Los Angeles is driven by media, entertainment, and financial services companies that require dedicated SEC and external reporting teams.
Are there remote senior financial reporting accountant jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. Financial reporting is desk-based and document-driven work, making it well suited to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 0% of senior financial reporting accountant openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how widely California employers have adopted flexible work for accounting functions. SEC filing cycles and close periods are the tasks most commonly handled fully remote.
How can I get hired as a senior financial reporting accountant in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a staff accountant or accounting associate role at a California public accounting firm or a mid-size public company, where exposure to SEC filings and close processes builds the foundation employers expect. Large California employers such as technology and biotech companies often run new-graduate rotational finance programs that include financial reporting rotations. Earning or actively pursuing a CPA license through the California Board of Accountancy gives candidates a clear competitive edge when applying for junior roles that feed into senior reporting positions.
Where can I find and apply to senior financial reporting accountant jobs in California?
You can find and apply to senior financial reporting accountant jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
