Senior Risk Consultant Jobs in Rhode Island: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior risk consultant in Rhode Island?
The path to a senior risk consultant role in Rhode Island typically starts with a bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a related field, followed by several years of progressively responsible experience in risk, audit, or compliance. Rhode Island does not require a state-issued license specifically for risk consulting, but employers strongly favor candidates holding credentials such as the Certified Risk Manager, Financial Risk Manager, or the RIMS-CRMP designation. Entry into senior roles often comes through financial services firms, insurers, or healthcare systems headquartered in Providence.
How much do senior risk consultants make in Rhode Island?
Senior risk consultants in Rhode Island earn a median of about $104,470 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $59,290 for the lowest 10% to over $186,580 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior risk consultants in Rhode Island?
Employers hiring senior risk consultants in Rhode Island right now include Citizens, CVS Health, and Fidelity Investments, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Rhode Island's concentration of regional insurance carriers, community banking institutions, and large integrated health systems like Lifespan and Care New England creates recurring demand for senior-level risk professionals.
Which Rhode Island cities have the most senior risk consultant jobs?
Johnston, Providence, and Smithfield account for the largest share of senior risk consultant openings in Rhode Island. Providence anchors demand as the state's financial and corporate hub, where Citizens Financial Group and major insurers are headquartered, while Warwick and Cranston attract openings tied to regional insurance carriers and mid-market firms that operate in the greater Providence metro.
Are there remote senior risk consultant jobs in Rhode Island?
Yes, and more than most fields. Risk consulting is largely analytical and advisory work, making it well suited to remote arrangements. About 60% of senior risk consultant openings tied to Rhode Island are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how broadly employers in financial services and healthcare have adopted flexible models. Roles focused on enterprise risk frameworks and regulatory reporting tend to be the most remote-friendly, while positions requiring regular on-site audits or board presentations are more likely to be hybrid.
How can I get hired as a senior risk consultant in Rhode Island with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a risk analyst or compliance analyst role at a Rhode Island financial institution or insurer, where you build the quantitative and regulatory foundation senior positions require. Amica Mutual and Citizens Financial Group have rotational programs and analyst pipelines that move candidates into progressively senior risk functions. Earning an entry-level credential such as the Associate in Risk Management while working in an adjacent audit, operations, or internal controls role accelerates the transition into a consultant-track position.
