Senior Sharepoint Developer Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior sharepoint developer in Virginia?
Most senior sharepoint developers in Virginia reach the role by building several years of hands-on SharePoint and Microsoft 365 experience, then earning vendor credentials such as Microsoft Certified: SharePoint developer or Power Platform certifications recognized by Virginia employers. Virginia has no state-issued license for this role. Federal contractors in Northern Virginia strongly favor candidates who can obtain a security clearance, so starting in a junior developer or systems analyst position at a contractor and progressing through clearance-eligible roles is a common path.
Which companies hire senior sharepoint developers in Virginia?
Virginia senior sharepoint developer roles are posted by YSI, Masego, and MANTECH and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Northern Virginia's dense concentration of federal agencies and prime contractors makes it one of the most active markets in the country for this role.
Which Virginia cities have the most senior sharepoint developer jobs?
Arlington, Fort Belvoir, and Quantico account for the largest share of senior sharepoint developer openings in Virginia. Northern Virginia dominates because of its proximity to federal agencies and the large defense and IT contracting firms headquartered there, while Richmond draws demand from state government and financial services employers, and Hampton Roads reflects military and Department of Defense contractor activity concentrated around Norfolk and Virginia Beach.
Are there remote senior sharepoint developer jobs in Virginia?
Yes, and more than most technical fields. About 17% of senior sharepoint developer openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how fully this work can be performed from anywhere with a secure connection. The tasks most commonly offered remotely are SharePoint Online configuration, Power Platform development, and Microsoft 365 migration work, while roles requiring access to classified systems or on-premises government networks typically require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a senior sharepoint developer in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as a junior SharePoint developer, systems analyst, or IT support specialist at a Virginia federal contractor or state agency, then building hands-on SharePoint experience from within. Leidos, SAIC, and General Dynamics IT regularly hire associate-level developers in Northern Virginia who work toward clearances while gaining platform experience. Earning an entry-level Microsoft 365 certification and building a portfolio of SharePoint site collections or Power Automate flows gives candidates a concrete edge over others without prior employer experience.
Where can I find and apply to senior sharepoint developer jobs in Virginia?
You can find and apply to senior sharepoint developer jobs in Virginia on Migrate Mate, which lists current Virginia openings. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level, clearance status, and preferred location or remote arrangement, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
