ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a Staff Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) focused on Graph Database Architectures and High-Volume Reporting Engines. You will lead the quality strategy for verifying complex graph traversals, indexing algorithms, multi-tenant analytics, and real-time visualization systems built across AWS and Azure cloud platforms.
- Build automated test suites to verify node/edge relationship integrity, sub-graph query optimizations, and path traversal correctness (e.g., Neo4j, AWS Neptune, GraphQL) under concurrent workloads
- Validate end-to-end data fidelity, dynamic aggregation accuracy, latency SLAs, and schema evolution across high-volume reporting layers
- Design automated benchmarking platforms that measure query execution plans, indexing performance, and memory consumption under multi-gigabyte payload conditions
- Leverage Kubernetes on AWS (EKS) and Azure (AKS) to spin up isolated, multi-tenant database clusters loaded with synthetic graph datasets for automated regression runs
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- 8+ years of experience in software development or test engineering using Java, Python, or Go
- Expertise in graph technologies (Cypher, Gremlin, GraphQL, Neo4j, AWS Neptune) and complex relational/OLAP query validation
- Strong cloud background across AWS and Azure data services, along with Kubernetes deployment orchestration
- Experience verifying large-scale analytical databases and BI reporting backend engines

Tips for Your Senior Test Development Engineer Job Search
Quantify test coverage and defect metrics
Hiring managers for senior test development engineer roles want to see numbers. Replace vague claims with specifics like test coverage percentage gained, defect escape rates reduced, or cycle time cut after your automation framework launched. Vague ownership descriptions won't survive a technical screen.
List your ATE platforms and instruments explicitly
Recruiters and applicant tracking systems filter on tool names. Call out every automated test equipment platform, instrument vendor, and programming environment you've used. NI LabVIEW, Teradyne, Keysight, Python-based frameworks, and JTAG tools each matter depending on the target industry.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists senior test development engineer openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target postings by DUT and industry vertical
Filter your search by the device under test your experience matches. An aerospace HIL background reads differently to a medical device company than a consumer electronics firm. Applying to roles where your DUT experience overlaps directly improves your callback rate significantly.
Prepare a live demo or code sample before interviews
Most senior test development engineer interviews include a technical exercise involving a test script, fixture design problem, or debugging scenario. Having a clean GitHub repo or a short recorded demo of a past test station ready to share gives you a concrete proof point most candidates skip.
Negotiate total comp beyond base salary
Senior test development engineer offers often include equipment budgets, conference allowances, and patent bonus structures that vary widely by employer. Ask about those components during final-round conversations, not after you receive the written offer, so you have room to negotiate the full package.
Senior Test Development Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most senior test development engineers?
The companies hiring the most senior test development engineers right now include Apple, Amazon, and Nokia, with the largest share of openings in California, Texas, and Washington, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Defense contractors, semiconductor manufacturers, and medical device firms consistently account for a large portion of open roles.
How many senior test development engineer jobs are remote?
About 38% of senior test development engineer openings are fully remote or hybrid as of September 2026, which is lower than in many software roles because hands-on work with physical test equipment is often required on-site. Software-defined test roles, test automation framework development, and CI pipeline integration positions are the sub-areas most likely to offer remote flexibility.
How do you become a senior test development engineer?
Start with a degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field, then build hands-on experience with automated test equipment, instrument control, and at least one scripting language like Python or LabVIEW. Progress from test technician or junior test engineer roles by taking ownership of full test station design and working across hardware and firmware teams. Earning a relevant certification, contributing to an open-source test framework, or leading a defect-reduction project accelerates the move to senior-level responsibility.
Can you get hired as a senior test development engineer without direct senior-level experience?
It's possible if your mid-level experience includes genuine ownership of a test system from requirements through deployment. Employers weighing candidates without a senior title look closely at whether you designed fixtures, wrote test plans, debugged failures independently, and mentored others. A strong portfolio showing a complete test station build or a measurable improvement in test coverage can offset a gap in title history.
What does the senior test development engineer interview process look like?
Most processes start with a recruiter screen focused on your tool stack and industry background, followed by a technical phone interview covering instrument control, measurement uncertainty, or test architecture concepts. A take-home or live coding exercise involving a test script or debugging scenario is common at mid-stage. Final rounds typically include a panel with hardware engineers, software engineers, and a hiring manager, and may involve presenting a past project in detail.
Where can I find and apply to senior test development engineer jobs?
You can find and apply to senior test development engineer jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Find roles that match your background and apply directly to each listing from the results page.
