The typical path starts with a degree in human-computer interaction, design, computer science, or a related field, followed by several years building a portfolio of shipped products. Massachusetts employers, especially in Boston and Cambridge, consistently favor candidates who can demonstrate systems thinking, research fluency, and experience mentoring junior designers alongside their hands-on craft work.
How much do senior UX engineers make in Massachusetts?
Senior UX engineers in Massachusetts earn a median of about $165,210 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $102,810 for the lowest 10% to over $213,970 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior ux engineers in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring senior ux engineers in Massachusetts right now include Whoop, Cargurus, and CivilGrid, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Massachusetts's concentration of fintech, health tech, and enterprise software companies means openings often require experience designing for complex data-heavy or regulated product environments.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most senior ux engineer jobs?
The Massachusetts cities with the most senior ux engineer openings are Boston, Natick, and Cambridge. Boston and Cambridge dominate because they anchor the state's largest tech, biotech, and financial services employers, while suburban markets like Waltham and Burlington add meaningful volume through the Route 128 corridor, which houses major enterprise software and defense technology companies with dedicated product design teams.
Are there remote senior ux engineer jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, and more than most fields. Senior ux engineering is well suited to remote and hybrid arrangements because the core work involves digital tools, async collaboration, and screen-based deliverables rather than physical presence. About 75% of senior ux engineer openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting strong employer flexibility in this role. Research and stakeholder presentation phases are the parts most frequently conducted in person at Massachusetts-based offices.
How can I get hired as a senior ux engineer in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is building a portfolio through bootcamp projects, open-source product contributions, or volunteer work with Massachusetts nonprofits, then targeting associate or mid-level UX designer roles at Boston-area companies rather than applying for senior positions directly. Employers like Fidelity, HubSpot, and early-stage Cambridge startups regularly hire UX designers at junior levels who can grow into senior engineers. Transitioning from adjacent roles such as front-end developer, visual designer, or product analyst is a common route, especially when paired with a UX certificate from a recognized program.
