Service Technician Jobs in North Dakota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a service technician in North Dakota?
Most service technician roles in North Dakota begin with a two-year technical degree or diploma from institutions like North Dakota State College of Science or Bismarck State College, followed by on-the-job training. Specific trades such as HVAC require certification through North Dakota's State Electrical Board or equivalent credentialing body. Agricultural equipment technicians often enter through manufacturer-sponsored training programs tied to dealership networks common throughout the state.
Which companies hire service technicians in North Dakota?
Employers hiring service technicians in North Dakota right now include Butler Machinery Company, Valley Plains Equipment, and Enerflex, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. North Dakota's energy and agriculture industries drive consistent demand, meaning oil field service companies and farm equipment dealerships are among the most reliable sources of ongoing openings.
Which North Dakota cities have the most service technician jobs?
Fargo, Williston, and Minot lead North Dakota for service technician openings. Fargo's concentration of manufacturing and distribution businesses anchors the eastern market, while Bismarck's role as the state capital brings in utilities and government contractors, and Minot's proximity to Bakken oil field operations sustains strong demand for energy equipment service roles.
Are there remote service technician jobs in North Dakota?
Yes, but they're rare. About 8% of service technician openings tied to North Dakota are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the hands-on nature of the work. The portions most likely to be remote are technical support, remote diagnostics, and documentation roles within larger service organizations.
How can I get hired as a service technician in North Dakota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is enrolling in a technical program at Bismarck State College or North Dakota State College of Science, then applying to apprentice or entry-level positions at agricultural equipment dealerships or utility service companies. Large employers in the Bakken region also hire field service helpers who train on the job. Earning a manufacturer certification, such as those offered through John Deere's tech program, gives candidates a clear edge without prior professional experience.
Where can I find and apply to service technician jobs in North Dakota?
You can find and apply to service technician jobs in North Dakota on Migrate Mate, which lists current North Dakota openings across the state's major industries and hiring hubs. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly to employers without any additional steps.
